Bryan Roth moved from Chicago to Houston for his ophthalmology residency at Baylor in 2015. A couple of months later, he swiped right on Houston native Leslie Goldberg’s profile on the Jewish dating app JSwipe, and their love story began. The couple’s life of togetherness, traveling, caring for their puppy and hiking, started from their first date over sushi and drinks. After four years together and a move to Ohio, Leslie was happily awaiting Bryan’s marriage proposal while Bryan made big plans to make it happen. The pandemic, however, threw a wrench in his plans forcing him to adapt.

The Wedding Décor
The wedding theme begins with adorable yet classy floral-inspired wedding invitations by Bering’s. Church brought Lauren, an introvert, and Paul, an extrovert, together. A romantic proposal while hiking up Enchanted Rock, during which the bride jokes they were “Sharing puns about getting an ‘enchanted rock’ on Enchanted Rock,” sealed their relationship. “I knew from the moment Paul gave me that side hug over two years ago that we were meant for each other. I am so grateful to call him mine for the rest of our lives!” As Lauren and Paul set out to plan their wedding, the couple faced an unexpected obstacle on the road to their wedding day: the Coronavirus pandemic. After having to cancel their original church and reception venue, all hope seemed lost until Paul called his step-grandfather, who had built a church in Galveston over 40 years ago. ”He graciously opened the doors of his church for us and also officiated our wedding,” says Lauren. From there a new celebration was planned and after a whirlwind three weeks of re-planning, the couple’s dream Houston wedding became a Galveston wedding reality.
At last, Lauren and Paul pledged their love amidst 70 guests. “Even with six feet spacing between them, our guests felt near to our hearts,” says the bride. The intimate celebration continued at Hotel Galvez & Spa’s Music Hall for a sunny afternoon reception. The decor was soft and elegant, with a delicate palette of sage, pink, peach and cream. Notes the bride: “The bright tropical landscape with the classic vintage architecture was a gorgeous backdrop for a day that Paul and I will never forget.” After heartfelt speeches and dining on filet mignon with roasted asparagus, the newlyweds made their grand exit along the Seawall at sunset. “Although our wedding ended up being nothing like our original plan, it was a beautiful, joyful day.”

Anita and Bill met as neighbors at a house party during Lights In The Heights in 2017 while they bonded over having daughters. “I was a little shy but his constant warmth and helpfulness lead us to become fast friends who found had similar stories: some happy, some painful,” recounts Anita. “We quickly found ourselves and our girls to be inseparable and decided we are better together than apart!” While on a trip to Bill’s hometown of New Orleans, Bill took Anita and their daughters to explore Jackson Square. “I watched our girls running around in joy in a post-Christmas mist thinking how lucky we all were to find one another,” recalls Anita. “I turned to look and found Bill on his knee proposing! Needless to say, I was blown away and passersby all stopped to watch as our girls whooped all around us. I said yes and the rest is history… “
For their summer wedding, it was only natural that the couple would tie the knot at Texas creole restaurant Brennan’s of Houston for a classic New Orleans brunch. “Brennan’s of Houston was the perfect location and the courtyard was beautiful for our outdoor morning ceremony,” says the bride. “We chose live music and had a small intimate wedding. Our girls were the flower girls and only our family and our neighbor family (which is so fitting since that is where we met) attended.” For their reception meal seafood dominated the menu, paying tribute to the bride’s Croatian heritage and the groom’s New Orleans upbringing, where guests dined on crab cakes, Gulf coast snapper, and Banana’s foster. Since their brunch wedding was on Father’s Day, the couple had a variety of wedding favors for their guests including cigars for the men, gift sets for the kids, and jams from Croatia where Anita and her family are from. “It was a series of perfect moments,” says Anita. “Two people who didn’t expect love again were able to find it literally right outside their doors…”
