WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON SPRING 2015 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Rachel & Estevan ~ March 29, 2014

“Estevan and I met in February of 2013 at our mutual friends’ game night where we were the only two single people,” recounts bride Rachel.  “They swear it was a coincidence.” Were pretty sure it wasn’t. For their spring wedding, the couple selected a fresh, seasonal palette of in and soft pinks,k and filled their rustic-elegant venue with touches of burlap, mercury glass and vintage furniture including rough-hewn farm tables, refurbished doors and wine barrels. Describing her favorite wedding moments, Rachel recounts sipping margaritas made with her father-in-law’s secret recipe and partying to a lively mix of country, pop and Tejano music. But most of all, she cherishes the memory of her father-daughter dance to The Temptations’ “My Girl.” “My dad sang this song to me while he taught me to swim in our backyard. It is my first memory, and a precious reminder of our relationship.”

Hindu-American Wedding by Akil Bennett Photography

“It was very important to us that our wedding day reflect both of our cultural heritages and traditions. We are thrilled we were able to incorporate two very different ceremonies into one (very long) day!” says bride, Becky. The Hindu marriage ceremony took place in the morning at the Omni Houston Hotel, “Starting with a boisterous barat procession with Aneesh along with his family and friends joyously dancing their way to the mandap (marriage pavilion), and ending with an Indian feast for lunch,” adds Becky. The Catholic ceremony was held that same evening (yes, that same day) where Becky wore a stunning lace Martina Liana gown from Brickhouse Bridal. Becky and Aneesh wanted to transform their reception venue into a small Tuscan village in the Italian countryside. “Between the bouquets of peonies and hydrangeas, the candles that filled the room with a soft glow, the tables named after Italian places close to our hearts, the Prosecco and Chianti that flowed throughout the evening, and the delectable Italian dinner, we truly felt transported,” says Becky. If you think their wedding sounds beautiful, just wait ‘til you see the pics! Thank you Akil Bennett for the fabulous photos and congrats to the newlyweds!

Blush, Ivory and Gold Wedding at the Bell Tower on 34th Street

Houston bride Meagan instantly fell in love with the grand Italian-villa-inspired architecture of The Bell Tower on 34th Street, which perfectly complemented her soft, romantic color palette of blush, ivory and gold. “I loved the beautiful carved-wood chapel doors, and had a vision of a grand entrance,” she says. “My fondest moment was when the bell tower rang, the doors opened and we locked eyes as I walked down the aisle.” Meagan wore a gorrrgeous drop-waist, lace bridal gown from Brickhouse Bridal with glittery gold Jimmy Choo pumps, of course. Swooning already? Yeah, we thought so. Just wait ’til you see the pics of the bouquet, centerpieces and OMG cake from Who Made The Cake! Congrats and best wishes, Meagan and JT!

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Sara and Bret ~ October 26, 2013

Sara always had a crush on her best friend’s older brother. And Bret, for his part, felt the same way about his younger sib’s BFF. But it wasn’t until 10 years after they’d first met that the pair expressed the connection they’d felt all those years. “One night, Bret texted me and said he had always felt that there was something between us and he wanted to see if there was. I agreed, so he drove up to Austin that night,” the recent bride recounts. “We got engaged four months later!” The couple’s classic Crystal Ballroom at The Rice wedding was a perfect expression of that longtime love, finally realized, and forever embraced.

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Iris and James ~ March 8, 2014

Who says cheap wings and 99-cent margaritas can’t possibly lead to true love? Neither Iris nor James, that’s for sure. The lovebirds, who met randomly at a Pasadena, Texas, Western bar, “hung out all night that night, and have been hanging ever since,” Iris says. In 2012, James surprised Iris at her “Ugly Christmas Sweater” graduation party, bearing a piñata filled with faux diamonds and ring pops. “I finally got to take my blindfold off, and James went down on his knee and proposed to me in front of everyone,” Iris recalls. “And, of course, tears, happiness and Facebook posts ensued.” The couple’s vintage-elegant wedding, with its shades of coral, ivory and gray, and its touches of burlap and lace, was the perfect expression of their tastes, and their love. Iris says she’ll never forget “running through the corridor of ribbon wands during our final send-off.”
