Spring 2018 Bridal Fashion Trend: Refined & Regal

Regal-Wedding-Dress

The Spring 2018 collections revealed at New York’s recent Bridal Fashion Week taught us a valuable lesson—refined and regal is always in. Big ballgowns, detachable skirts, romantic veils and dramatic crowns have made a comeback, and we’re all for it. We are loving this trend so much, we put together a complete bridal look to give you some inspo before you shop for your wedding dress at local Houston bridal salons. Love the trend? Check out the deets below on where to buy these looks. Happy shopping, xo!

1. Sigh. Elie Saab’s Spring 2018 collection reminds us why we’ve always loved ballgowns. Who doesn’t want to feel like a princess, especially on her wedding day? For maximum versatility, try a ballgown with a detachable skirt—an awesome option for brides who want to let loose and dance the night away without having their gown get in the way.

2. We had a chance to get our hands on this Maria Elena crown at Joan Pillow Bridal Salon’s trunk show last week…and OMG, it’s a stunner. We recommend pairing it with a romantic, braided up-do or sleek, pulled-back look (life hack: remember to always channel your inner #queen).

3. The Hazeline Suite is dear to ring designer Anna Sheffield, who created it in homage to her own grandmother’s ring, and we’re pretty sure that any bride who chooses it will end up turning it into a cherished heirloom of her own. The champagne-colored diamond with white diamond accents makes for a timeless, vintage look we absolutely love.

4. Alexander McQueen is the king of the clutch game. We particularly love the combination of soft lace with edgy gold and silver accents. Oh, and the knuckle clasp? It’s like a crown for your hand!

5. Imagine these Aquazurra Crystal-Embellished Sandals peeking out from beneath your beautiful ballgown. They’re just the perfect shade of blush, with  just the right amount of crystal bling to complete your bridal look, as they catch the light everywhere you turn. Sparkle on, sister…sparkle on.

The 8 Commandments of Perfect Bridal Fit by MW Couture

Tuesday, April 18th, 2017

Having begun sewing at the age of 15, Minerva Wooldridge quickly moved on to creating custom wedding gowns from hand-selected materials and exquisite embellishments, eventually founding her own Houston atelier, MW Couture. She is known throughout Houston and the U.S. as an alterations expert and designer of heirloom-quality special-occasion garments, who follows a strict set of rules to ensure that every bride leaves her store with the perfect fit. “My goal is to put my quality on display all the time,” she says. “You don’t take your dress from here unless you are 100 percent happy and satisfied.” We talked with Wooldridge about her rigorous regimen, known to her and her staff as “The Eight Commandments.”

1. The First Fitting — Wooldridge and her team strive to create the most welcoming and comfortable environment possible for the clients who have entrusted MW Couture with their wedding-day look. One way she does this is by reminding brides from the very first phone call to bring their slip, bra and shoes to their first fitting, so she and her team can get the entire look right from the get-go.

2. Dress With Care — Wooldridge also dresses the bride herself, paying special attention to every detail of the dress. She says that this helps her client feel more confident, as she expertly sets the gown to each bride’s body.

3. Find the Vibe — “Sometimes having the bride describe her wedding is like looking into a crystal ball. It lets me know her personality,” Wooldridge says. By hearing more about the event, Wooldridge can determine if she should go more romantic, modern or elegant with the design and fitting.

4. Listen and Answer — “The first time the bride comes in she might be very emotional,” Wooldridge says. She and her team listen intently to make sure they don’t miss any key elements the bride might mention, and that they answer all questions and address all concerns with confidence and empathy.

5. Talk It Out — Once alterations are underway, Wooldridge and her team go into great detail to explain all changes that have been made to the dress and offer any further ideas they might have, leaving the floor open for the bride to ask questions of her own. “Everything has a solution,” Wooldridge says. “I am trying to find the best solution, so she can have a dress that is both personal and unique.”

6. Right On Time — The team at MW Couture is always conscious of brides’ timeframes and takes pride in making achievable alterations within acceptable pickup dates.

7. Quality, Quality, Quality — Wooldridge insists that all alterations at MW Couture are “equal to or better than the original construction of the dress.” We can vouch for that!

8. Conclude with Gratitude — Lastly, Wooldridge thanks the bride for trusting the family at MW Couture with the most important garment for the most important day of her life! She wishes all wedding couples luck and a lifetime of memories.

Shop for a Cause at MLD Limited This Month

Wednesday, March 22nd, 2017

While Houston boasts a bevy of beautiful bridal gowns, mother-of-the-bride ensembles and bridesmaid dresses for every shape, size and style, there is something to be said about designers who tailor their work exclusively to you… and even more to be said about those who who give back to the community!

MLD Limited, one of Houston’s premier custom clothing designers, does just that. For more than 25 years, designer and president Mary Denney has fashioned couture gowns for some attendees of some of the city’s most prominent events, including (you guessed it) weddings! Looking for a regal, elegant bridal gown, or a classic (but not even slightly matronly) MOB/MOG dress? MLD knows exactly how to enhance your figure and show off your style!

“The benefit of custom design is that you get a better, more personal fit,” Denney says. “We do a prototype in a muslin fabric and we fit that to your body. You’re able to select your fabrics, and your design, and even go as far as selecting the lining!”

This month, MLD will taking its impeccable personal service one step further. For every purchase made in March, MLD will donate 15 percent of the purchase price to The American Heart Association, an organization near and dear to Denney’s heart.

2017-03-21_0007

“I am passionate about helping the Heart Association due to the death of my grandfather, dad and my dad’s two brothers. My brother has a heart condition as well as I have high blood pressure, “Denney says. “I have learned over the years that heart disease has an impact on all our lives. So many times we miss the warning signs, especially women.  I am happy to support this worthy cause.”

The philanthropic special applies to all items and designs MLD Limited offers, but only lasts for a few more days! All you have to do is say, “Go Red,” at checkout to help the studio give back. And it won’t hurt to mention that you heard about the event on the Houston Wedding Blog. Happy shopping, lovelies!
