Blue & Gold Wedding by MD Turner Photography

One summer Haley decided to sign up for the annual Beta Fraternity River Trip with some girlfriends. The girls were ready for some New Braunfels relaxation and arrived to get on the bus. However, as it always seems with boys’ “careful” planning, there were not enough seats for everyone. Cue Daniel. In true southern gentleman-like fashion, he offered his seat to Haley. He may or may not have had some motive behind this gesture, but it sure paid off. Haley admits she was pretty impressed and started up a conversation with Daniel…a conversation that would continue for the rest of their lives. The two quickly established a favorite date-night spot, George’s Pastaria here in Houston…but little did Haley know that the spot would become even more special on February 15^th, 2014. The two were talking and laughing all the way until closing time. Realizing that they were the only two left in the entire restaurant, Haley told Daniel they really should go…but he insisted they stay. Surrounded by nothing but the slowly burning table candles, Daniel got down on one knee. Unable to hold back the happiest of tears, Haley said, “YES!” Now we may or may not be shedding some happy tears, too (we totally are). Haley and Daniel were beyond excited to send out their classic cream and gold invites from Bering’s to all of their friends and loved ones to celebrate this incredible day! The wedding was just a vision—the couple’s chosen colors of Wedgewood blue and shimmering gold were the perfect statement. Although Carrie and Christopher both grew up in Houston, they didn’t actually meet until college in San Antonio. But they totally knew—even as freshmen—that they were soulmates. June 26, 2014, was easily the best day of Christopher’s life…but June 25, not so much. Christopher had the ultimate proposal planned for the love of his life with a getaway weekend to Bachelor Gulch, Colorado. However, he had a few challenges to face along before then: airport delays, car rental delays, traffic delays in the mountains (that’s a lot of waiting, y’all!) Even horseback riding, Christopher’s last hope, was changed to a van ride…thanks to trailhead construction! On top of all of this, Christopher ended up in the hospital! Spoiler alert: He still proposes. What a hero, right? They got back to their hotel room that night and all Christopher could think about was the next day, June 26. The day was effortless—well, besides the effort of proposing! The two enjoyed hiking, private yoga, spa treatments and fine dining. On their way to the restaurant, Christopher asked Carrie to take a little detour…He led her down a quaint path around the hotel, which ended with a bridge leading to a vista covered with rose petals in the shape of a heart. Okay, swoon. Christopher recalls, “I dropped to one knee and popped the question, all while my photographer, Nate, hid in the bushes taking photos like a ninja paparazzi.” Perfect plan, Christopher. Perfect plan. Kat Creech Events put together a fantastic courtyard wedding for Carrie and Christopher! Every little detail was accounted for. After having s’mores on their Colorado proposal adventure, the couple had an inspired s’mores station on their dessert table at the reception to accompany their shimmering cake made by Who Made the Cake! As always, Steve Lee Photography provided some absolutely beautiful photos of the big day. Carrie and Christopher, we wish you both a lifetime of happiness.

Of course, no wedding-day look is complete with the right…sparkle. And guests found oodles of glimmer and shine (and a few VERY substantial rocks), at the dazzling displays put on by Peran & Scannell Jewelers, and Donoho’s Jewellers.

Couples seeking a talented photographer and/or filmmaker to capture the beauty and emotional resonance of their special day had an abundance of options, with exhibits from Adam Nyholt, D. Jones, M. While they wandered through the Soiree’s wonderland of wedding WOW, guests were entertained by top Houston MC, DJ, and live-music experts DJU Productions, LG Entertainment and pianist Scott Graham. And, of course, since this WAS a party, eager attendees indulged in fabulous food, sips and sweets from Jackson and Company.

Along with the grandeur of The Corinthian all around them, venue-seeking to-be-weds could virtually tour The Parador and Chateau Cocomar—two beloved Houston sites for ceremony and reception.

2015 Client Appreciation Party at La Colombe d’Or by Civic Photos

They create the most incredible celebrations in town. So each year, we celebrate them, with a pull-out-all-the-stops party where Houston’s top wedding pros can let their hair down (or tease it wayyyyy out, as pictured below), dance, dine, and get fabulously festive with friends, colleagues and the staff of Weddings in Houston magazine. This year’s Client Appreciation Party, with its ’70s-Glam theme design from Darryl & Co., and fantastic disco soundtrack, courtesy of DJU Productions, transformed regal venue La Colombe d’Or into a Studio 54-inspired nightclub…and transformed an enthusiastic crowd of Houston’s most talented wedding vendors and experts into a hip-shaking, down-getting, conga-lining bunch of boogie queens and kings that only stepped away from the dance floor to refuel on themed cocktails, fine food…and delicious cake from the amazing Susie’s Cakes & Confections. Oh, and also: There were rollerskates.

Listen up, ladies: There’s something to be said for making the first move. Just ask Houston bride Brittney—who may never have ended up with the love of her life if she hadn’t asked handsome Randy for his digits at that Southern Methodist University dorm icebreaker 10 years back. “We ended up talking for hours on end,” she recalls, “then officially started dating on Sept. 24, 2004…and the rest is history!” At the couple’s beautiful Chateau Cocomar wedding, the groom, whose family hails from Ghana, changed into traditional Ghanian clothing halfway through the reception and delighted in watching his family shower his bride in money—a Ghanian tradition that Brittney says, “was a complete surprise to me, but made for an awesome story and a unique experience at our wedding.”
