WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Kerry and Kris ~ October 5, 2013

Though they’d always known they’d wed, Kerry and Kris, who were introduced by a mutual friend in 2002, were simply waiting for the timing to be right, “which, for us, just happened to be about 10 years,” the bride says. Kris proposed to his beloved on bended knee at the top of a Colorado ski slope while fellow skiers applauded. “It was magical and I could not have imagined it being any better,” Kerry says. A little over a year later, the pair celebrated with 150 friends and family members, who sat at tables named for the groom’s favorite James Bond movies, and dined on filet mignon and shrimp, followed by slices from a magnificent four-tier wedding cake. The bride’s favorite moment? “Our first dance after we were introduced as husband and wife,” she recounts. “We danced to Aerosmith’s ‘Don’t Want to Miss a Thing.’”

Vintage Blush & Gold Wedding at The Gallery

Houston bride Kristi went to town on planning the details for her candlelit, garden-inspired, beautiful wedding at The Gallery. Kristi carefully thought out every single detail, from the wax-sealed vintage programs, to rose-folded vanilla napkins, to spending months collecting wine bottles to hand make soy wax candles for the guests! Kristi and her groom, Ross chose a soft color palette of blush, ivory, gold, and hints of mint that filled the room for a romantic setting. There were not one, but FIVE different white-on-white cakes, custom macaroni and cheese bar, AND a late night doughnut station for the guests to indulge in. If you think all of this sounds amazing, just wait ‘til you see how gorgeous the photos are! Congrats & well wishes to Kristi & Ross!

Gold, Lavender and Rose Chateau Cocomar Wedding by Steve Lee

“Sean proposed to me on Christmas Eve 2011 at my parents’ house. We have a family tradition of each person opening one gift the night before Christmas. That year my mom decided the gift would be an ornament with an inspirational message inside. Everyone opened their ornaments and read their messages aloud, one at a time. I was last because my mom couldn’t seem to find my ornament on the tree. Sean found the ornament for her and he handed it to me. When I opened it my message read, ‘Will you marry me?’ I was so shocked and excited that I didn’t even notice that he was already down on one knee with the ring in his hand telling me how much he loves me. It was perfect! I loved finding out later that Sean had asked my dad for his permission before proposing.” We love it, too, Jessica. And, just like your mom, we love that you had her wedding gown altered to wear at your rehearsal dinner at The Grove. And that you made the invitations to your Chateau Cocomar wedding by hand. And that Sean’s favorite moment of the whole wedding was when he got his “first look” at you, privately, in the moments before the ceremony. And, most of all, that you and Sean found each other, and true love, in this big, wide world. Congratulations to you both, and big thanks to the exceptional Steve Lee for magnificent photos of this magnificent Houston wedding.

Lavender and Coral Galveston Texas Wedding at Hotel Galvez

When Greg cut his foot on a Memorial Day weekend river-house trip, Laura, who barely knew him, was urged by her matchmaking best friend to “‘fix his foot because I was in school to become a physician assistant,” she tells us. Little did Laura know she was taping up the tootsie of her future husband. Two years later, the pair wed at Galveston’s historic Hotel Galvez & Spa, amidst billowing white draping, lush lavender, mauve and coral flowers, and lots and lots of family. “The entirety of the wedding was very family oriented. The ceremony was written by our immediate family over a long dinner a week before the wedding. Greg’s father performed the ceremony, with my parents giving a reading. My matron of honor was my sister and the best man was Greg’s brother, who wore his U.S. Marines dress blues,” recounts Laura. And while Laura and Greg’s fancy moves—a result of dance classes prior to the big day—elicited oohs and aahs, another dance-floor moment at this Texas wedding was even more moving: “An anniversary dance was performed, with my aunt and uncle being the last dancing, with 43 years of marriage. Greg and I are always compared to this particular couple due to over a foot height difference between us, which my aunt and uncle also share; that was a special touch.” Congratulations to the newlyweds (and their long-wed relatives!), and big thanks to JW Baugh Photography for the pretty pictures!

Elegant Ivory, White and Black Persian-American Wedding at Hotel ZaZa

We admit it: We’ve got a soft spot for love stories that begin, “We met when we were 16 years old, at the mall.” Especially when they involve years of long-distance, on-again-off-again dating that culminates, finally, with the realization that you can’t and won’t live without your true love by your side. Such is the nature of Elly and Ryan’s relationship, sealed with heartfelt vows in a ceremony inside  Hotel ZaZa’s Phantom Ballroom that combined Persian and traditional Western rites and rituals. Following the ceremony, guests gathered in the ballroom’s foyer area where they enjoyed more than 10 different types of passed hors d’oeuvre while Hotel ZaZa’s expert staff, along with design pros from florist and decorator Plants N’ Petals, transformed the ceremony space for the reception. “Each of the 13 nooks in the Phantom ballroom was used differently,” bride Elly explains. “The center nook held the Persian sofreh while other nooks contained bars, couches and seats with cocktail tables, guest dinner tables, the six-piece band, and the two DJ’s.” Centerpieces of roses, peonies, hydrangeas and crystal candelabras topped the tables, where guests convened to rest and refuel when not dancing the night away. “Our wedding went even better than I could have imagined,” Elly says. “We had such a wonderful time!” And we’ve had a wonderful time sharing your day with you and Ryan. Thanks so much to John Ly Photography for the pretty pix—and congratulations to the lovely couple.
