Former high-school friends Andrea and Matt went their separate ways after school–Matt to the Marines, Andrea to college then to work on a cruise ship. And it wasn’t until a full 14 years later that they reconnected at the funeral for a mutual friend’s father, and discovered they had both relocated to Houston. After hanging out casually for awhile, Matt finally worked up the courage to ask Andrea out on a “real” date. “He really had some game!” Andrea recounts, noting that her future husband was “a true Southern gentleman.” Showing up each time “in a spotless, freshly washed truck, he picked me up for concerts, dinners out, movies, and he even sent me flowers!” she says. While finding time to plan their wedding was the biggest challenge for attorney Andrea and mechanical engineer Matt, they managed to pull off the celebration of a lifetime at The Astorian. Surrounded by a rich, wintry wedding color palette of burgundy, navy and gold, the pair and their 220 guests feasted on fried-oyster nachos, stuffed pork tenderloin and mascarpone mashed potatoes from Cordúa Catering, along with a six-tier bride’s cake and a U.S. Marine-theme groom’s cake, both from Cakes By Gina. We’re grateful to newlyweds Andrea and Matt for sharing their burgundy and gold winter wedding, and their love story, with us. Thanks, too, to Ama By Aisha for the lovely photos of Andrea and Matt’s burgundy and gold winter wedding celebration!

Winter Wonderland Wedding at Heather’s Glen

What happens when a Houston bride wants a winter wonderland wedding? She makes it happen! Kaylin took her ideas from Pinterest, created all of the decor herself and became the queen of DIY. “I cut down tallow trees from my mom’s property and spray painted all of them white and threw on epsom salts for some shimmer. I used 14 of them to line the chapel aisle so that it looked like I was walking through a winter wonderland,” she says. Favorite moment? “While I was walking down the aisle and saw Michael’s face…it made all the hard work worth it.” See all of our favorite DIY moments from Kaylin and Michael’s winter affair in the lovely photos below!

Red, Black and Gold Winter Wedding at the Magnolia Hotel by DC Stanley Photography

How’s THIS for a proposal story? “It was a night of reliving ‘firsts’—a Rockets game (our first official meeting), dinner at Vic & Anthony’s (our first official date), drinks at Hotel Zaza…,” says bride Brie Anna. “On a balcony overlooking the Museum District, he surprised me with a hand-drawn charcoal portrait of the two of us. The entire portrait was black and white, EXCEPT for a canary-yellow diamond engagement ring placed on my ring finger within the picture. My eyes were instantly drawn to the yellow image and I turned to find Craig down on one knee!” The couple’s December wedding, with its Catholic church ceremony and “lounge-feel” Magnolia Hotel reception—“NO traditional seating—cocktail-style vignettes and comfortable couches,” the bride recounts—captured the festiveness of the season, as did the surprise “flash mob” organized for the groom! Congratulations to the happy couple, and thanks to DC Stanley Photography for the fantastic photos of the fabulous winter wedding.
