Planning a wedding is hard enough…but planning a wedding in the middle of a global pandemic is even harder! College sweethearts Elly and Trevor faced countless challenges while trying to navigate their intimate summer wedding in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Should they postpone? Should they cancel? Or should they stick to their original date? Luckily love prevailed and they managed to pull off the celebration of a lifetime at The Astorian“COVID-19 was definitely the biggest obstacle for us,” says the bride. “We had planned, postponed, then decided on June 19th that we were going to get married on our original date (June 27th), no matter what the day looked like. Everything seemed to fall into place after we made the decision to move forward and called our vendors. It ended up being the most gorgeous day I could have ever imagined. It was the ideal intimate wedding experience.” A gorgeous day indeed, and we are so thankful towards Houston wedding photographer Ama By Aisha for beautifully capturing their special day!

Following their church ceremony, the couple joined 50 of their nearest and dearest at The Astorian for an intimate wedding reception. The reception decor was romantic and elegant, featuring a beautiful summer color palette of white, blush and green with champagne and dusty blue accents. Menu highlights from Cordúa Catering included Golf crab cakes, smoked lamb lollichops, and truffled grilled cheese. The meal’s sweet finish featured a five-tier white wedding cake accented with blue Italian tile print and a yeti groom’s cake, both from Cakes By GinaThe memorable night ended with the couple exiting under a shower of golden sparklers before making their getaway in a vintage 1955 Rolls Royce. The bride’s favorite moment? “Getting ready with my girls in The Astorian bridal suite was perfect,” says the bride. “We blasted our music and drank mimosas while getting our hair and makeup done!” We’re so happy that everything worked out for newlyweds Elly and Trevor and excited to share their romantic and intimate summer wedding with y’all. Congratulations, Elly & Trevor!

Though they met many years ago through mutual friends, back then, “The timing just wasn’t right,” says Kevin’s future bride, Julie.

“I was still in school, and long distance relationships can be difficult, so we remained friends for a couple years, hanging out with friends when I would come back to Houston.” Then one fateful day, Kevin asked Julie out on their first real date. “I thought, ‘He is so handsome, and I already know he is such a wonderful guy,’ so I said, ‘Yes.'” Fast-forward to a surprise midweek vacation to Galveston, which found the couple enjoying cocktails at the romantic rooftop bar of The Tremont House. I thought, “‘Oh my gosh, is he going to propose??'” Julie recounts. “But it didn’t happen.” The next morning, as the couple was leaving their hotel, “We walked down to the front of the hotel overlooking the beach…and right up to an arrangement with a bunch of photos of us, flowers, and a sign that read, ‘Marry me.’ I was in shock! I had no idea what was happening at first, he had caught me so off guard.” While planning their wedding, both Julie and Kevin, along with the rest of the city of Houston, were caught off guard by a much less pleasant surprise: Hurricane Harvey. Romantic Sustainable Wedding At The Astorian

Talk about a meet cute: When Ashley and Andrew both showed up a Halloween party dressed as Tom Cruise (Ashley as T.C. from “Risky Business,” Andrew as T.C. from “Top Gun”), it was only natural that they’d find each other and hit it off. That was in 2016. Two years later, the self-proclaimed goofballs–both of whom say that a sense of humor and ability to make one another laugh is what they love most about each other–tied the knot at The Astorian, in the presence of 200 loved ones. “We were raised to try and waste nothing, repurpose much, include those who are challenged, and when spending time or money, make decisions with love and prayer that support those efforts,” the couple tells us. And by taking special measures with their wedding planning, such as delivering their repurposed bouquets to senior assisted living communities in the Medical Center area of Houston, and choosing guest favors from Sweet Heat Jam Co., which sells products handmade by mentally and physically challenged individuals in Katy, the couple was able to achieve that, “and so much more, on the BEST DAY EVER!” Ashley says. We invite you to take a moment and enjoy this thoughtful and elegant wedding (including a GORGEOUS cake from local legend Cakes By Gina) as we wish Ashley and Andrew a lifetime of love! They both love tropical fruit, coconut water and spending their weekends cooking, and doing bible education work. They both name kindness and dedication to family as the qualities they love most in each other. And on one fine spring day, at a castle-like Houston wedding venue, Lisa and Melbon both said “I do,” in front of 100 close friends and family members. Their wedding celebration, which incorporated the couple’s Caribbean, Portuguese and Indian cultures, surrounded gathered guests with beautiful, larger-than-life white, blush and peach flower arrangements and tons of candles, courtesy of Houston floral design firm Plants N’ Petals.
