Talk about a meet cute: When Ashley and Andrew both showed up a Halloween party dressed as Tom Cruise (Ashley as T.C. from “Risky Business,” Andrew as T.C. from “Top Gun”), it was only natural that they’d find each other and hit it off. That was in 2016. Two years later, the self-proclaimed goofballs–both of whom say that a sense of humor and ability to make one another laugh is what they love most about each other–tied the knot at The Astorian, in the presence of 200 loved ones. “We were raised to try and waste nothing, repurpose much, include those who are challenged, and when spending time or money, make decisions with love and prayer that support those efforts,” the couple tells us. And by taking special measures with their wedding planning, such as delivering their repurposed bouquets to senior assisted living communities in the Medical Center area of Houston, and choosing guest favors from Sweet Heat Jam Co., which sells products handmade by mentally and physically challenged individuals in Katy, the couple was able to achieve that, “and so much more, on the BEST DAY EVER!” Ashley says. We invite you to take a moment and enjoy this thoughtful and elegant wedding (including a GORGEOUS cake from local legend Cakes By Gina) as we wish Ashley and Andrew a lifetime of love! They both love tropical fruit, coconut water and spending their weekends cooking, and doing bible education work. They both name kindness and dedication to family as the qualities they love most in each other. And on one fine spring day, at a castle-like Houston wedding venue, Lisa and Melbon both said “I do,” in front of 100 close friends and family members. Their wedding celebration, which incorporated the couple’s Caribbean, Portuguese and Indian cultures, surrounded gathered guests with beautiful, larger-than-life white, blush and peach flower arrangements and tons of candles, courtesy of Houston floral design firm Plants N’ Petals. After meeting through mutual friends, Michael and Kelley found themselves smitten with each other, right from the get-go. Their connection soon turned into romance, and after five happy years, Michael decided it was time to make things official. One fateful day after brunch, Michael and Kelley took their dog, Dunkin, out for a walk…which ultimately turned into a memory Kelley will always cherish, after Kelley noticed a pink heart tag on the dog’s collar that read, “Mom, can we keep him?” and on the other side, “Will you marry me?” OK, guys, how sweet is that? Michael’s creative proposal worked, and the following May, Kelley and Michael tied the knot in a beautiful ceremony at the same church where the bride’s parents had been married. The pair’s spring Astorian wedding reception had it all, from the elegant decor and the spectacular city view, to fantastic entertainment and exquisite food. Their 275 guests were treated to the sublime cuisine of Cordúa Catering. “Cordúa Catering knocked it out of the park,” notes the bride. “They provided the traditional carving station with some fun, modern options like the Mac & Cheese Bar, the Raw Seafood Bar, and a Salad Wall.” Yum! Yet the best moment for Kelley and Michael was “…The Astorian’s view of the sunset on downtown Houston. It was breathtaking and a moment we will never forget!” Congratulations to you both!

Former high-school friends Andrea and Matt went their separate ways after school–Matt to the Marines, Andrea to college then to work on a cruise ship. And it wasn’t until a full 14 years later that they reconnected at the funeral for a mutual friend’s father, and discovered they had both relocated to Houston. After hanging out casually for awhile, Matt finally worked up the courage to ask Andrea out on a “real” date. “He really had some game!” Andrea recounts, noting that her future husband was “a true Southern gentleman.” Showing up each time “in a spotless, freshly washed truck, he picked me up for concerts, dinners out, movies, and he even sent me flowers!” she says. While finding time to plan their wedding was the biggest challenge for attorney Andrea and mechanical engineer Matt, they managed to pull off the celebration of a lifetime at The Astorian. Surrounded by a rich, wintry wedding color palette of burgundy, navy and gold, the pair and their 220 guests feasted on fried-oyster nachos, stuffed pork tenderloin and mascarpone mashed potatoes from Cordúa Catering, along with a six-tier bride’s cake and a U.S. Marine-theme groom’s cake, both from Cakes By Gina. We’re grateful to newlyweds Andrea and Matt for sharing their burgundy and gold winter wedding, and their love story, with us. Thanks, too, to Ama By Aisha for the lovely photos of Andrea and Matt’s burgundy and gold winter wedding celebration!
