Gold, Glitter and Navy Wedding by George Street Photography

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON SPRING 2015 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Liz & Vinnie ~ March 22, 2014

Pediatric cardiology fellow Liz met Vinnie, an applications engineer, at a bar on St. Patricks’s Day, when neither was out searching for love: “We both had gone out in our rattiest clothes, ready to just have fun with our friends,” Liz recounts. In the tradition of their first encounter, Vinnie’s proposal, offered to Liz at the top of a mountain they had just hiked in the pouring rain, was less than glamorous affair. But their wedding at Discovery Green’s The Grove made up for all that, done up as it was in gold, glitter and blush, against a backdrop of chic, sleek cream and navy. For her special day, Liz wore not one, but three knockout gowns, including a shimmering vintage halter-neck sheath with a stunning draped back. And a very special day it was for the bride and for her mother, whose recent kidney transplant meant that she could fully enjoy the festivities. “I thank God every day fort the selfless gift of organ donors,” says the grateful-and gorgeous-bride.

WOW Wedding at The Grove by Rachel Robinson Photography

We love a small wedding with big impact, and Nicolas and Carrie’s 70-guest wedding at The Grove definitely fits the bill. The couple took full advantage of The Grove’s modern wood-and-glass construction, enhancing it with sleek succulents and softening it with vintage organic touches—courtesy coordinator and exceptionally talented floral designer Laurel Hanz of Laurel’s Florals. Whose work, by the way, was gorgeously captured by Rachel Robinson Photography. We’re crazy about the potted arrangements for ceremony aisle and tables, which allowed the day’s décor to go on living and giving joy. And that fabulous vintage phone booth didn’t just bring a bright splash of red to the placid palette, it also was a nod to the couple’s London connection—it happens to be the city where they currently make their home. This wedding was just brimming with happiness and serenity, from pre-ceremony primping at the Magnolia Hotel, to dance-floor revelry. We are inspired. Are you?

Venues We Love: The Grove Houston

If you’ve visited Discovery Green (and if you haven’t, spring is a great time to check it out), you’ve probably caught sight of The Grove. The 10,000-square-foot glass, wood and steel restaurant—designed by Larry Speck, former dean of architecture at UT Austin, with interiors by Schiller Del Grande Restaurant Group partner Candice Schiller—is a sight to behold. AND it’s the site where this month’s giveaway winner will be enjoying a very, very nice dinner with a very special someone. So make sure to get ON that if you haven’t already, Houston bride.

But did you know that The Grove is also an amazing place to have a foodie-friendly rehearsal dinner, engagement party or full-on wedding (three private rooms, room for 250 guests, outdoor ceremony space—everything you need)?

We love that this stunning space “happens to be among the most eco-friendly places in all of Houston,” as catering director Tatiana Escobar puts it. She points to The Grove’s on-site tomato and herb garden, and the restaurant’s use of “eco-friendly materials made from corn, sugarcane or coconut fiber,” along with its commitment to strict recycling and composting practices. Of course, green is great—but eco-friendly, architecturally captivating AND famed for its fabulous food? That’s even better. Escobar says that just like regular ol’ restaurant diners at The Grove, wedding guests take full advantage of chef Robert Del Grande’s “exquisite American Rustic menu featuring a range of tantalizing appetizers, salads, seafood, rotisserie specialties, steaks and decadent deserts,” and The Grove’s “stylish and precise service.” Yum.
