Fun, Festive, Fabulous Indian-American Wedding

“With you, things are the way they should be, and I would like to continue that forever.” Was a simpler or lovelier proposal statement ever spoken? Sigh. California-raised Jack wed Texan Nisha this summer, blessing his mom—finally!—with a daughter, after four sons. The pair’s 400-guest celebration, with its Indian and American influences (saris, mandap, cake balls, cocktails) was a feast not only for the palate, but for the eyes, thanks to Darryl & Co., who did up Bayou City Event Center in a swank wedding color scheme of black-and-white stripes with vibrant hot-pink and purple floral arrangements, gold accents and amber lighting. Just looking at Biyani Photography’s photos makes us wish we were at this incredibly fun and gorgeous Houston wedding. Thank you for sharing your special day, Nisha and Jack—we are so happy for you!

Champagne, Gold and Chocolate Villa Rinata Wedding

Ooo… another U.S.-Canada transcontinental love story. We love it! (Full disclosure: Our editor is married to a totally adorable Canuck, so she’s a little biased.) OK, so, Jessica and Mike’s tale actually starts with a series of phone calls they shared, at the urging of friends who thought they’d be perfect for each other. Eventually, they had to meet in person—and once they did, the sparks flew. One January day, Mike flew from Edmonton, Alberta, to Houston to surprise Jessica with a marriage proposal…and not only did she say, “Yes,” but she actually moved to Edmonton, where she and Mike now live. “It’s very cold here,” she tells us, “but he keeps me warm.” We’ll just bet he does. Oh—and about the couple’s Houston wedding? It was a beauty! Using a palette of champagne, gold, ivory and chocolate, Darryl & Co. filled the already-lovely Villa Rinata with creamy roses and hydrangeas, illuminated with amber uplighting. Jessica dazzled in her Allure Bridals gown from Weddings by Debbie, and perfect hair and makeup by—who else?—The Perfect Face. Feast your eyes on photos from Canadian photography team Shadowbox Studios, which capture all the glamour and sophistication of this wedding, with its feminine touches and metallic edge. And join us in wishing Jessica and Mike a lifetime of love and warmth!

Classic Winter Wedding at the Crystal Ballroom at The Rice

“We wanted a very classic winter wedding, and the historic Crystal Ballroom was perfect for this,” says Houston bride Ingrid of her wedding to her handsome groom George. The pair, who met online at eHarmony.com—“We had our first date a music festival at Discovery Green, met for dinner again the next night, and could not get enough of each other from then on,” Ingrid recounts—hosted 215 guests for an evening of ceremony and celebration, including all-night dancing to a full live band, and a gold, pewter and cream wedding color scheme that echoed December’s wintry hues. “We danced a well-rehearsed fox trot to ‘It Had To Be You’—our friends and family were very impressed by it. The band kept a full crowd on the dance floor and everyone (young and old) enjoyed it. Guests finally sent us on our way with white ecofetti that looked like snow, and the party continued at the pub next door.” Now that’s how to kick off a life of good times together! Big thanks to Blanca Duran for very pretty photos of this fabulous fete, and congratulations to Ingrid and George.

HWB Hearts: Wedding Styles of All Stripes

There’s a reason why certain styles become classics. Take stripes for example. This simplest of patterns always manages to look sophisticated while somehow simultaneously conjuring preppy tradition, nautical whimsy, steampunk funk and Victorian elegance, all in one fell swoop. There’s no better way to add a dash of geometric edge to your soft-and-sweet wedding palette than with a striped accessory (his or hers), table linen, napkin or favor package. We’ve assembled some of our favorite stripes here. Check them out, then check in on today’s Wedding Buzz, for more stripes, and all the week’s top wedding events, news and featured stories!

Purple, Pink and Gold La Colombe d’Or Wedding by Rachel Robinson

If there’s one thing Houston brides know how to do right, it’s mixing refined elegance with real, kick-up-your-heels FUN. Danielle and Robert’s wedding is a perfect example. For understated opulence, you can’t do any better than La Colombe d’Or, with its Grand Ballroom featuring 20-foot ceilings and 300-year-old oak-paneled walls repurposed from a French chateau. To this already lavish setting, high-school sweethearts Danielle and Robert added sinewy, illuminated glass-cylinder arrangements from Plants ’N Petals, and subtle accents of deep pink, purple and regal gold. And they brought in Jonny Black Productions to ensure their celebration of a lifetime wasn’t just another pretty place—but an unforgettable party for all involved. Our favorite touches? The framed portrait of the bride in her ga-ga-gorgeous Vera Wang gown, the purple ties and pocket squares, and, most especially, orchids, orchids everywhere! Big thanks to photographer Rachel Robinson for sharing her pretty, pretty pix with us—and warmest wishes to newlyweds Danielle and Robert.
