WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE
Anthony and Richard ~ September 14, 2013
When stylist Anthony was referred to realtor Richard—the latter provided a vacant property for a video shoot when the original site backed out at the last minute—he couldn’t have known that his rescuer would also end up being his lifelong mate. But the shoot led to a date, where “we seriously hit it off and agreed to meet again. And again. And again. And finally, he just never left,” Richard recounts. “Ah, true love!” Two years into their courtship, Richard proposed in Manhattan at Rockefeller Plaza’s famed Christmas-tree-lighting ceremony. The following autumn, the pair had a commitment ceremony—and partied the night away—at the Sam Houston Hotel, where, Richard says, the evening’s most joyful highlight was “bringing 165 family members and friends together in one place to help us celebrate our special day.”

“Our design aim was to discover the intersection between what Barr Mansion had already so beautifully curated and where we found our personality within that,” says bride Jenna of her wedding to adorable Nathan at Austin’s foodie-focused wedding venue. “We took the antique, rustic, free-spirit, artistic, creative, comfortable and natural beauty that was already there and built on that with homegrown flowers, handcrafted centerpieces, personalized paper-cut banners, unique music, DIY’d accent pieces, and a relaxing, lounge-style reception atmosphere.” Even the day’s wet weather was a welcome happenstance. “My mom mentioned that it had rained on her wedding day, and Nathan remarked how the drizzly gray weather looked exactly like where he grew up in Alaska.” We’re delighted to share with you this sweet couple’s lovely wedding, featuring coordination by Kat Creech Events and flowers by Dream Bouquet—make sure to check out more from this talented team of top Houston wedding vendors in the new issue of Weddings in Houston (“Opulence Among the Oaks,” p. 216), on newsstands now!

Four Seasons Las Vegas catering manager Nicole readily admits that her event-planning experience was both a blessing and a curse when it came time to prepare for her own wedding. “Being an event planner, there were so many ideas. Then when one was selected, I would want to change it for a more cost-effective option. Experience and knowing how many options there were made choosing very difficult. That’s why I was kicked off [the job] and my mom and planner”—Kat Creech, of Houston’s Kat Creech Events—“took my vision and created the perfect day!” The bride’s dream wedding to her beloved Cham (whom she met by boldly strutting up and introducing herself, upon catching sight of his handsome mug at a local pub—let that be a lesson to you, ladies!) is a mystical garden of multiple delights, set inside the window-lined space of a historic Houston theater. From the jewel-tone centerpieces, suspended birdcages, Spanish moss and floral peacocks to the brooch bouquets and stained-glass windows, Nicole and Cham’s elegant Houston wedding is the perfect balance of lush natural bounty and sublime sparkle. We hope you’ll agree, and that you’ll join us in swooning over photos from ALTF Photographers, and in wishing these two a lifetime of love and happiness! Bridal Soiree at the Royal Sonesta Hotel, for details on how Creech and her crew can transform your wedding fantasy into reality, just like she did for lucky (and savvy) bride Nicole.
