Wedding Floral Inspiration for Every Season by TnT Events

Trish Nguyen, Houston wedding decorator, florist and founder of TNT Events, has an impeccable eye for detail and flair for florals. She has pulled off everything from royal-inspired weddings, complete with plush seating and luxurious lighting and draping, to rustically romantic outdoor ceremonies, to oh-so-modern affairs with lucite chairs and over-the-top floral arrangements all within a reasonable price point.

Because of Trish’s stellar taste and knack for all things design and decor, we asked her to share with us four floral design inspirations from every season. Take a peek below and let those ideas blossom!

Winter: We love the subtle blue hues of these Dusty Miller leaves, mixed with large white petals and smaller green accents in TNT’s winter floral display! This look says elegance with a hint of eclectic, rustic charm. The boutonnière on the left also perfects the use of natural elements in a masculine look.

Spring: Nothing shouts springtime like a dash of bold, bright colors. The mix of hot pink blooms, blush roses and eclectic greenery is the perfect combination for brides who want their wedding day look to really pop!

Summer: A softer look, complete with pink and peach garden roses, accented by beautiful baby’s breath makes for the most romantic of summer looks. Houston brides might want to stay away from the Texas heat outside, but there’s no reason they can’t have a lush flower display in hand like this one from TNT!

Fall: As the colors change throughout the rest of the country (not so much in Houston), fall floral arrangements follow suit. We love the warm orange and yellows on display here, with the adorable purple succulent that ties the whole look together to create something truly unique! This look is perfect for the less traditional of brides, looking to push the envelope, but remain elegant.

Blush, Plum, Ivory & Gold Wedding

You should trust your dad when he tells you he has the perfect guy in mind. Just ask Houston bride, Talia, whose dad set her up with Barry. “He took me to an Ethiopian restaurant, brought me flowers, opened doors… a total gentleman,” says Talia. Unfortunately she wasn’t ready to date him just yet. “Years later I couldn’t stop thinking about him. We reached out to each other on a few occasions, but were never able to meet. Finally, we were able to get together for a cup of coffee, and the rest was history,” adds Talia.

Ten years after their first date, Barry took Talia to the same Ethiopian restaurant where they first met. “After dinner he convinced me to go to the museum to check out a friend’s art show,” recounts Talia. He arranged for a friend to take photos at the Light Tunnel in the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. “Once we arrived at the Light Tunnel, I realized no one else was there, and he was on one knee!” adds Talia.

Their wedding was exactly how they pictured it—unique, hints of art deco, and simply elegant. “Balushka, owner of Balushka Paper Floral Artistry, and I always talked about how she would decorate my wedding one day, and when the time came, she did a phenomenal job. She came up with the most gorgeous panels of handmade paper flowers in shades of blush, plum, ivory and gold for our backdrop,” says Talia.

Guest Post: Gray & Associates Events on How to ‘Celebrate Well’ on Your Wedding Day

Join us in welcoming Shaun Gray, the wedding planner extraordinaire behind Gray & Associates Events, to the Houston Wedding Blog! Shaun and his team strive to help wedding couples “celebrate well,” sometimes with a grand, traditional wedding in Houston, other times with a beachside-blowout in Galveston… and always with a well-stocked supply of Champagne. We asked Shaun to explain exactly what it means to “celebrate well,” and for his advice to wedding couples who want to do just that!

At Gray & Associates Events, we know that you want to host a wedding celebration that your family will cherish and your friends will love, and one that both you and your partner get to enjoy — without having to do excessive work! That’s what we call being able to “celebrate well.”

Here are my five tips to assist you in doing everything you can throughout the planning process to ensure you and your beloved get to celebrate well at your wedding:

1. Do You — Don’t get caught up in what your bridesmaid did at her wedding last year, or pay too much attention to Aunt Linda’s constant reminders that peonies are so beautiful during this time of year. If you don’t want peonies, then it doesn’t matter. If you keep trying to find ways to appease your family and friends, your wedding will look more like a thrown-together version of 50 other people’s weddings, and less like a celebration to honor your new union.

2. Go Big Before You Go Small — Worry about your venue, your wardrobe, your food and your photographer first. If you haven’t selected a venue yet, then stop Pinning “5 Farm Tablescapes Everyone Will Swoon Over,” especially if you aren’t set on having a rustic-style wedding. If you try to force a preconceived theme on a venue that doesn’t lend itself well to your theme, then it’s pointless to book the venue, so keep looking.

3. Hire A Planner — Weddings In Houston is a great resource to find our great city’s top event planning experts. Even if you’re not looking to “celebrate well,” any professional planner will assist you with navigating the many tasks, that, without professional help, can get you really stressed out during the months before you say, “I do.”

4. Rest The Night Before — I cannot stress this enough! If you’re a bride, make sure that your makeup and hair team don’t put you in the chair first, and take that time to relax. They’re just going to have to come back and refresh you anyway, so you can afford to have them start on you a little later and knock out some of your bridesmaids first. For guys, make sure not to get tanked the night before your wedding. You’ll wake up groggy (and probably a little sick!) and that isn’t a good look for anyone, especially on the day of your wedding!

5. Stick To Your Budget — We always make sure that we don’t put a bride in a $10,000 gown when she only wanted to spend $6,500, because, knowing all of our luck, she’d get emotionally attached to the higher-priced gown, and then be disappointed when it was too far outside of her budget. The same thing goes for your overall wedding budget. If you’re spending $50,000 on your wedding, don’t let your floral designer work you up a proposal for $25,000. But for Champagne, now, that’s a different story…

The Ultimate Wedding Setlist According to Danny Ray and the Acoustic Production

Wedding couples sing the praises of Houston wedding band Danny Ray and the Acoustic Production for two reasons: 1. They create custom set lists to represent every wedding couple, and 2. They have perfected a high-energy, non-stop performance that keeps guests of every musical inclination on their feet.

“We can be a full-fledged party band, but we can also throw in some quirky song choices that reflect who the couple is,” says frontman Danny Ray. “We are just so excited to be playing. When we’re playing, we’re grooving and rocking out, and that shows!”

We asked Ray to walk us through his ideal wedding day setlist, crafted with hints of romantic serenades, Motown classics, Texas country and full-blown party ballads. Listen in:

The Opener —Ray likes to kick off the reception with a recognizable hit that starts off slow and builds to become more upbeat. His go-to’s are “Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” by Frankie Valli and The 4 Seasons, and “You Are the Best Thing” by Ray LaMontagne. “They are not really slow, but they are not really fast,” he says. “Those are the two that we start off with most often, but every now and then we get a client who wants to hit it hard from the beginning, and in that case we would start out with ‘Kiss’ by Prince.”

First Dance —Ray says that he and his band will learn any first dance song for wedding couples they work with. In general, if couples have a song with personal meaning to them, no matter where it falls in the set list, he is willing to make it happen. “Any first dance, we are open to those,” Ray says. “If there is any special song, maybe for a last dance or if it’s a song that they say they would go crazy for, we want to add it in.”

Mashups — For really letting it loose, Ray likes to mix in custom mashups of 90s hip hop favorites with rock classics — like Snoop Dog’s “Gin and Juice” and Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Sweet Home Alabama ” — to keep guests on their toes! He will even rap…ish.  “I really like doing mashups because the second you go into another song, you see everyone processing what just happened,” Ray says. “Everyone is with you for that moment.”

Modern Hits — And of course Ray and his team don’t shy away from the hits of the moment. “Right now you can’t go wrong with Bruno Mars,” he says (and we agree). “Bruno Mars, Prince and the mashups are the things that almost always happen.”

Ceremony or Cocktail Classics — In addition to the lively reception music, the band also performs acoustic takes of more romantic songs for the wedding ceremony, dinner and cocktail hour. “What we play during the ceremony is completely directed by the bride and the groom,” Ray says, having performed everything from classical compositions, to Beyonce ballads, to songs from Adam Sandler’s movie, “The Wedding Singer.” For cocktail hours and dinners, Ray often performs crooner classics from Frank Sinatra or Michael Bublé, along with contemporary acoustic songs from the likes of The Lumineers or Of Monsters and Men.
