Avery and Matthew’s story began at the University of Georgia, though their paths didn’t cross until a beach party before a big football weekend in late October. With mutual friends and festive energy in the air, a memorable outfit sealed their connection. “We always say it was his Hawaiian shirt with Santa boxers that made me fall for him,” the bride shares. Shortly after, Avery invited Matthew to a sorority date event back in Athens, and the rest is history.

Returning to the city where their love story began, Matthew proposed in the botanical garden while in town for his brother’s graduation. With a clever excuse about picking out flowers for Mother’s Day, he led Avery through the garden’s peaceful paths before dropping to one knee. “It was so special to be back in the place where we fell in love in college, and we were able to share a celebration with both of our families and friends after,” the bride shares.

The couple kicked off their wedding weekend with an intimate rehearsal dinner at Ouisie’s Table, followed by an enchanting garden ceremony in Houston. Surrounded by classic white florals with touches of blue, Avery and Matthew exchanged vows beneath the open sky.

Guests were treated to a one-of-a-kind cocktail hour at the Houston Zoo, where they mingled with giraffes and even had the chance to feed them. “Getting to feed a giraffe during cocktail hour may take the cake for the most unforgettable moment,” Avery shares.

With twinkling string lights, glowing candlelight, and a checkered black and white dance floor, the couple’s Houston Zoo wedding reception radiated romance and whimsy. Lush floral arrangements echo their color palette, while exotic wildlife adds a touch of wonder. The celebration ended with Avery and Matthew sharing a private last dance before a festive bubble send-off.
