When it came time for Taylor to propose to his college sweetheart, Catherine, he did what smart-and-smitten guys do in these circumstances: He enlisted the help of Catherine’s best friend. Together, the co-conspirators arranged to have Taylor waiting in an exam room at the veterinary clinic where Catherine works as a vet tech. “My coworkers came and told me that a client had requested me for a tech appointment, and that they were waiting for me in room 4,” the bride recounts. “When I went in, I was shocked to see Taylor in there, down on one knee, and a wood sign around his dog’s neck that read, ‘Will you marry my daddy?’ Little did I know that it was being filmed the whole time, and my coworkers were watching in another room!” For their fall wedding, the couple chose the beautiful natural setting of 15 Acres, a contemporary destination-style wedding venue located under an hour’s drive from Houston in Hockley, Texas. The bride planned her DIY wedding, with help from family and bridesmaids.
With its elegant modern ballroom and landscaped outdoor ceremony space, 15 Acres needs little in the way of floral and decor (don’t just take our word for it–schedule a tour to visit this uniquely beautiful venue!). Taking a smart DIY wedding approach, Catherine relied on the always amazing Cafe Natalie for event catering, and called in professionals for her wedding photography, wedding cakes and personal flowers. The bride crafted her own low-key table decor and handled vendor booking and contracts. With the expert staff of 15 Acres at her side, she was able to create the DIY wedding of her dreams. Her favorite moment of the day? “Getting to marry my best friend,” she says without hesitation. Please join us in wishing the newlyweds a lifetime of love!
