Rashmi + Leonid
For the colorful Indian-Jewish multicultural wedding of the two Houston attorneys at The Astorian, the decor was both beautiful and symbolic. "We wanted something to match the art deco vibe of the Astorian," explains groom Leo. "Bashert is a yiddish term for 'destiny' or a person's soulmate, especially when considered as an ideal or predestined marriage partner. Our colors of midnight blue with metallic highlights is meant to evoke bashert, or, 'written in the stars.'" Family and friends came to celebrate from destinations far and wide, including India, Australia, and Russia. The couple and their families embraced both a colorful traditional Hindu ceremony, and a Jewish ceremony, followed by a festive reception. The tantalizing menu featured lamb kebab in a puff pastry with figs, chicken satay with spicy peanut sauce, lamb rogan josh, and an exquisite saffron crème brûlée, followed by a navy and silver cake and delectable cupcakes, both by Susie's Cakes & Confections. After hours of packing the dance floor, the many happy guests cleared away, allowing the soulmates to share a private last dance against the twinkling Houston skyline.
