WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Jordan and Moises ~ March 15, 2014

“Hook, line and sinker,” is how Jordan describes her feeling about Moises when the then-Sigma-Chi-president texted her, “I like your boots,” following the fraternity-chapter meeting where the two first met working on a philanthropic project. While Moises proposed in Paris, the couple’s wedding was Tex-Mex all the way, from their Houston Livestock Show rehearsal dinner to their menu of chips-and-queso, tamales and plantain-crusted chicken, to the custom Texas-flag boots the bride wore at her reception—which took place, incidentally, at her family’s vast horse ranch, where Jordan spent much of her youth. With their wedding, she adds, she and Moises strove for “a tasteful balance between our down-to-earth roots and our love for rich color and bold decor—basically the chicest darn ranch shindig this cowgirl has ever seen!”

Black and Red Hotel ZaZa Houston Wedding by Motley Melange

“He truly is my hero,” says Jamie of her firefighter hubby James, whom she wed in a fabulous fall affair at Hotel ZaZa, in front of 130 of the couple’s nearest and dearest. Looking stunning in her sparkling Winnie Couture gown, glamorous updo and fire-engine-red Louboutins (love!!), Jamie said her vows to handsome James—no slouch himself in his sleek Vera Wang tux—before throwing her arms around him for a first dance to Etta James’ classic, “At Last.” Big thanks to Motley Melange for photos that perfectly capture the “Old Hollywood” glamour of this gorgeous Houston wedding—and BIG congratulations to the newlyweds!

Red, White, Green and Black Olde Dobbin Station Wedding by The Silhouette Studio

Lifelong lovebirds Hannah and Evan made their dreams come true when they tied the knot this past July. Held at beloved country-chic venue Olde Dobbin Station, the couple’s wedding was “eclectic,” says Hannah. “We didn’t want it to be too much of any style. I tried my best to incorporate my husband’s modern and rustic styles with my love for typography and flowers.” For all its visual allure, Hannah says her favorite part of their wedding was “saying our vows.” She notes: “We had waited so long to be able to commit ourselves to each other. It was a dream-come-true.” With its bright pops of rich red, and its touches of vintage lace, homemade cookies and its delightful ceremony-backdrop chalkboard, this sweet Houston wedding is one of our faves of the summer. Big thanks to photographer extraordinaire Sarah Bouchard-Williams of The Silhouette Studio for the lovely-as-always photos, and our most sincere best wishes to the young newlyweds!

Fun, Relaxed, Dance-Fueled Houston Wedding by DC Stanley Photography

“After we got engaged, Eric told me that the only thing he wanted in our wedding was to have the Spazmatics play during the reception,” recounts bride Melissa. “I had no idea that band would shape our entire wedding.” That wedding started with a ceremony at the Houston Arboretum—“I love the idea of bringing our kids back to the exact spot we got married to have a picnic,” the bride says. Next, guests headed to Houston’s House of Blues for a fun, upbeat, joy-filled party featuring Southern comfort food, red velvet cake and tons of dancing. DC Stanley Photography’s photos of this event are nothing short of fantastic, but Melissa says the photographer’s talents go beyond just pointing and shooting. “David and his wife are an amazing team. I hate posed pictures and he does an amazing job of catching the moment without being intrusive. His work looks more like art then wedding photography. He was also extremely helpful when needed. My bustle kept falling out and he helped my bridesmaid fix it. He has been to a lot of weddings and has tons of knowledge. I am sure he could be a wedding planner if he wanted to.” Aww… how sweet is that? However, we do hope the Stanley duo keep taking gorgeous wedding photos, so we can keep showing them to you, our beloved Houston brides! Congratulations, Melissa and Eric, and thank you for sharing your very special day.

Butler’s Courtyard Holiday Season Wedding by Alicia Pyne Photography

A lucky color for weddings all over the world, red featured beautifully at Kristin and Kevin’s festive November nuptials. For their 110-guest celebration, the pair chose Butler’s Courtyard—a favorite spot of ours for its vintage charm and rustic elegance, and, decked out for holiday season, a perfect spot for the “warm and welcoming” wedding experience bride Kristin wanted her guests to have. Alicia Pyne Photography’s images of the couple’s lovely wedding wonderfully capture that sense warmth and graciousness—heck, we feel cozy just looking at ’em. Wishing the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness…and good fortune!
