Marcia + Harley
Harley first caught Marcia’s eye when he walked in late to their college psychology class one day. Little did she know that he had an eye for her, too: “His subtle pick-up lines went right over my head, but I eventually caught on,” jokes Marcia. The classmates spent an afternoon together at The Houston Museum of Natural Science, “and we’ve been inseparable ever since,” she adds. A year later, Harley proposed with an anatomical heart ornament to symbolize their first date. Surrounded by 100 family members and friends, the pair wed in an intimate outdoor ceremony, and then celebrated their newlywed status with dinner and dancing against a backdrop of deep marsala, blush and ivory blooms. In many ways, science is what brought Marcia and Harley together, so they incorporated science into their wedding by decorating with single flower-filled test tubes and creatively naming each table after a chemical in the body that is related to feelings of affection. “There’s a bit of humor there,” recounts the bride, “but ultimately, the theme was love.”
