Mayleen + Michael
A 2014 blind date led to true love for Mayleen and Michael. Three years after that fateful evening, Michael popped the question to Mayleen beneath the iconic Hakone Shrine at Japan’s Lake Ashi, with Mount Fuji as the backdrop to his dramatic proposal. For their August wedding, the couple chose Corinthian Houston as their venue, and allowed their wedding planner, and their design firm, Plants N’ Petals, to guide their way to…WOW. “We love clean, crisp, modern design,” notes bride Mayleen. “But we also wanted to incorporate some of our Chinese cultural elements, which are typically more vibrant and colorful. We eventually had to just put all of our trust in our event planner, Crystal, and let her and Bahara Jamea, with Plants N’ Petals, decide on the final design for our big day.” The result was nothing short of spectacular, centering on “a stunning floral arch covered with lilac and peach long-stem roses and white orchids,” which served as the ceremony altar, and the focal point of the evening’s festivities. Adds Mayleen: “My dream was to have our guests dance under the stars at our wedding. Since that’s pretty hard to do in the Houston heat, our planner was able to achieve that with blue stars lighting the ceiling.” Other favorite features included ice “shot luges,” an ultra-highenergy live band, and 5,000 paper cranes, folded by Mayleen’s family, to bestow blessings on the couple for a long and harmonious marriage.
