MLB Player + College Sweetheart Celebrate Their Love Story at The Astorian

Before the celebration of their love story at The Astorian, it first started when Roxanne and Nick met at a backyard party in their beloved college town, Louisville, while they sat on top of a garage with one of their mutual friends. After getting to know one another, they exchanged numbers, and Roxanne called herself “Party Time Volleyball” on Nick’s phone, which, to this day, he hasn’t updated.

As time went on, the two realized they had a lot of the same classes, and they kept running into one another by chance. A few years after college, Roxanne was traveling to Louisville for volleyball and Nick had just gotten back from his first pro season in the MLB for the Texas Rangers. They ran into each other again and spent the evening talking nonstop on an outdoor heated patio under the trees when Nick finally asked her on a date.

What sprouted as a high school romance blossomed into Mary Margaret and Daniel’s quintessential love story and beautiful wedding. In their junior year of high school, Daniel asked Mary Margaret to attend a pool party together with mutual friends. A few years later, Daniel rented the patio at Mary Margaret’s favorite restaurant for just the two of them and popped the question. Afterward, an intimate celebratory dinner, they joined their families who were waiting inside at the bar. “It was the best night ever!” explained Mary Margaret. The best day ever? The big one, of course!

The couple married at the ornate Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Houston. Traditional white wedding floral arrangements bursting with roses and candle-lit lanterns lined the aisle. Mary Margaret carried her something borrowed—her mother’s Rosary Beads—wrapped around her white rose bouquet. But the bride’s favorite floral arrangement cascaded from the ceiling at the reception.

When Jessica’s brother-in-law invited her over to teach a yoga class for him and a friend who was training for the Houston Marathon, she had no idea that she’d be meeting her future husband, Alex. “As cliché as it sounds, it was love at first sight,” explained Jessica. The couple began dating shortly after, and on November 6, 2020, Alex popped the big question during a family trip to Telluride, Colorado. Little did Jessica know, his whole family was in on the surprise! He proposed at the top of a mountain with his parents and siblings there to capture the moment on camera and celebrate with a bottle of bubbly.

Upon returning to Houston, the couple began looking for wedding venues, deciding on the elegant Astorian. “The Astorian is so breathtaking in and of itself, so I wanted soft white flowers and a lot of candlelight,” said Jessica. The floral wedding arch and canopies of white flowers and greenery cascading from the columns perfectly balanced Jessica and Alex’s wedding color palate against the Astorian’s rich architecture and 1920’s-esque tones. The tables creatively wrapped around each column, giving guests the feeling of dining in a lush garden with the Houston skyline peeking in through windows. Click here to read the rest of this post »

Alexis got engaged to her high school sweetheart, soul mate, best friend, and spiritual partner Trevor after an unexpected proposal. After picking Alexis up from a trip to the ER, Trevor asked if she still wanted to go out for date night. Never one to turn down a steak dinner, Alexis said yes and went to get ready. “When Alexis came out of my room, the balcony doors were open and rose petals and lights were everywhere,” recalls Trevor. After a heartfelt speech and loads of happy tears, Trevor asked Alexis to be his wife. “The setting of the apartment is especially special because not only was it romantic and intimate, but it was the first place we really experienced dating in the same city after being long distance for 4 years.”

The couple wed at The Astorian in a “very classic but ethereal” ceremony, under a custom altar built by the groom. Cascading greenery, lush white floral arrangements and floating candles filled the industrial-chic venue. Alexis recounts loving the hanging vines over the monogrammed dance floor while her favorite moments were “My first touch and prayer with my husband and my first look with my dad.”

We’re delighted to share with you this ethereal wedding at The Astorian, gorgeously captured by Houston wedding photographer Ama By Aisha. Congratulations, Alexis & Trevor!
