We like to think of Lara and Nick’s meeting as a bright silver lining on a very dark cloud: The couple first encountered one another in July 2011 in Fort Payne, Ala., where both were volunteers assisting in tornado relief efforts. Their long-distance relationship—he was in North Carolina, she lived in Houston—blossomed, and in 2012, Nick moved to Houston. With its cornflower-and-peach color scheme and steak-and-lobster menu, the pair’s summer wedding was true Houston classic. The gracious bride adds, “It was also Nick’s brother-in-law’s (he was Nick’s best man) birthday, so after his speech we gave him a cheesecake and sang him, ‘Happy Birthday.’ It was pretty cool to see all 150 people join in and celebrate.”

Pediatric cardiology fellow Liz met Vinnie, an applications engineer, at a bar on St. Patricks’s Day, when neither was out searching for love: “We both had gone out in our rattiest clothes, ready to just have fun with our friends,” Liz recounts. In the tradition of their first encounter, Vinnie’s proposal, offered to Liz at the top of a mountain they had just hiked in the pouring rain, was less than glamorous affair. But their wedding at Discovery Green’s The Grove made up for all that, done up as it was in gold, glitter and blush, against a backdrop of chic, sleek cream and navy. For her special day, Liz wore not one, but three knockout gowns, including a shimmering vintage halter-neck sheath with a stunning draped back. And a very special day it was for the bride and for her mother, whose recent kidney transplant meant that she could fully enjoy the festivities. “I thank God every day fort the selfless gift of organ donors,” says the grateful-and gorgeous-bride.

Small-town boy Bryan met city-girl, Amanda in a Single Life class at Second Baptist Church. They hit it off and Bryan proposed three years later to Amanda on a beautiful bench in the prayer garden of SBC. Amanda and Bryan had a vision of their wedding to be classic, elegant, traditional and fun. Amanda wed Bryan at Second Baptist Church in a gorrrgeous blush lace Allure Bridals gown from Weddings by Debbie. Following the ceremony was an elegant affair at The Omni Houston Hotel where 175 of their nearest and dearest dined and danced the night away. When stylist Anthony was referred to realtor Richard—the latter provided a vacant property for a video shoot when the original site backed out at the last minute—he couldn’t have known that his rescuer would also end up being his lifelong mate. But the shoot led to a date, where “we seriously hit it off and agreed to meet again. And again. And again. And finally, he just never left,” Richard recounts. “Ah, true love!” Two years into their courtship, Richard proposed in Manhattan at Rockefeller Plaza’s famed Christmas-tree-lighting ceremony. The following autumn, the pair had a commitment ceremony—and partied the night away—at the Sam Houston Hotel, where, Richard says, the evening’s most joyful highlight was “bringing 165 family members and friends together in one place to help us celebrate our special day.”
