Gold, Hot Pink & Black Wedding at Chateau Cocomar

Sometimes reconnecting with your high school boyfriend is a good thing—just ask Houston bride Codi. After graduating college and moving back home, Codi and Austin fell in love all over again and decided this time it was for forever. Codi brought a new meaning to true Houston glam when she wed Austin in a feather-accented Stephen Yearick gown from Brickhouse Bridal. Her vision of a glamorous, fairytale wedding came to life at Chateau Cocomar. “Instead of using the typical blush and white color palette, I added hot pink and black for a more unique look,” she says. Black sequin linens and mercury glass candle holders were just a couple of details that added a romantic yet glamorous look to the decor. Michael planned the sweetest proposal for his high school sweetheart Sarah. “After dinner, Michael told me to put a blindfold on. He took me to several places around Kingwood where we had special memories: our first kiss, where he first told me he loved me, and our old high school meet-up spot. At each stop, Michael gave me a rose and proceeded to tell me a reason why he loved me at every spot. The final stop was at the golf course where Michael and I had our first date. When I took off the blindfold, he was down on one knee with rose petals scattered around him and a bottle of champagne. After I said “yes”, Michael had gathered both of our families to celebrate,” says bride Sarah. A sweet proposal story like this deserves an even sweeter wedding. When Kelsie and Michael were planning their Houston wedding, two words came to mind: classy and fabulous. Their choice of venue? Hotel ZaZa, of course. The Arts District property’s sophistication perfectly meshed with their color palette of black, pink and gold. “I wanted a fun wedding that guests would talk about for years to come,” the bride says. The couple and their guests enjoyed a fun-filled evening of dining and dancing–accompanied by neon sunglasses and glow sticks. As Houston Rockets director of broadcasting Joel Blank recounts his initial blind date with KHOU-TV anchor Lisa Hernandez: “We had our first date, and knew we had gone on our last first date.” The couple made it official with a lovely late-summer wedding at the dazzling Crystal Ballroom at The Rice, where guests dug into fajitas, indulged in a decadent “dessert gallery,” and danced the night away. We don’t know who’s luckier—the bride, who, dressed in her stunning Ines Di Santo mermaid gown, tearfully exchanged vows with the man of her dreams, or the groomsmen, who each went home with an NBA game ball signed by Dwight Howard, James Harden, Kevin McHale, Calvin Murphy, Clyde Drexler and Hakeem Olajuwon. “When we were planning the wedding we wanted it to be something that let our personalities shine through,” says Houston bride Ashlyn. “We chose a design that was simple but still unique, and we decided to keep all of our events at Hotel Derek. This made it easy for guests, and allowed the evening to flow smoothly.” Ashlyn and groom Zach, who met as undergrads at UT Austin, treated their 130 guests to dinner and lively dancing, in a room done up for the occasion in chic shades of lime green, black and white. “We were so thankful to spend such an important day in our lives with our friends and family,” Ashlyn says. “Some of our favorite moments were the first dance, bouquet and garter toss, and dancing the night away!”
