Pink and Gray Briscoe Manor Wedding by Lindsay Elizabeth Photography

Man’s best friend…or man’s best proposal ruse? You be the judge! Houston bride Kay explains: “We were out walking our Great Dane Nali like we usually do in the evenings, when she started getting into something in the grass. Nate made me worry and was saying, ‘What does she have?’ but it was dark so it was hard to tell. When she finally ‘dropped’ it, I still couldn’t make out what it was, so I was poking at this thing on the ground…which turned out to be a ring box! I fell to my knees and started crying—not your typical dog walk!” Sweet Nali the Great Dane made yet another appearance in Kay and Nate’s love story, as ring-bearer at their spring wedding at Briscoe Manor. Here’s a glimpse at the festivities, in the bride’s words: “Our first dance was to Ray LaMontange’s ‘Hold You in My Arms,’ followed by a father-daughter dance to ‘My Girl” by The Temptations. Then came a surprise mother-son dance from Nate, who had practiced the dance from ‘Pulp Fiction’ with his mom! That was quite the treat considering Nate isn’t much of a dancer, especially when all eyes are on him. After lots of food including a phenomenal brownie bar, breaking it down to the Harlem shake, a bouquet toss to Beyoncé’s ‘All The Single Ladies’ and a garter toss with Nate’s 80-something-year-old uncle diving for the garter, we wrapped things up with a fireworks show and departed into a classic Rolls-Royce to Hotel ZaZa for the night!” We are loving Lindsay Elizabeth’s joyful photos of this warm and wonderful Houston wedding. Happiest wishes to Kay and Nate…and lovely Nali, too!

Green, Merlot and Bronze Bell Tower Wedding by Carlino’s Photography

It was the summer between 8th and 9th grade. She played bass clarinet, he played tuba. And after spending months at band camp having her feet stepped upon by Erick in marching-band practice, Erin “knew there was something special about him,” she tells us with a smile. The two made it official earlier this year with an elegant but high-energy celebration at The Bell Tower on 34th, a site the bride describes as “an absolutely gorgeous venue—it has so much to offer for a wedding.” She notes, “My ceremony was pretty traditional except for the music. I hired someone to sing and play an acoustic guitar for before and during the ceremony. My bridesmaids walked in to ‘Only Hope’ by Switchfoot, I walked in to ‘Angel’ by Casting Crowns, and our unity-candle song was ‘1,000 Years’ by Christina Perri.” More music—country, pop, classic standards and Spanish songs—filled the rustic-elegant reception, where guests dined on BBQ and buttercream-frosted cake, and danced the night away. We wish a lifetime of happiness to the newlyweds, and send a big thanks out to Alison Carlino of Carlino’s Photography for the evocative images of this classic Houston wedding.

Downtown Brenham Engagement Shoot by Sarah Ainsworth Photography

Recognized as a National Register District, downtown Brenham is pretty much picture-perfect for classic photos with a charming small-town feel. Which is exactly why photographer Sarah Ainsworth and her clients Hayley and Jeffrey chose the location as the backdrop for the couple’s engagement shoot. As Ainsworth tells us, “It had that great mix of the cute downtown square, with old buildings and unique architecture, but also offered the country landscape that provided perfect open fields.” We can’t help falling in love with Hayley and Jeffrey, who’ll wed in Houston in October. Good luck and congrats to the almost-weds, and big thanks to Weddings in Houston fave Sarah Ainsworth for sharing her lovely photos!

Middle Eastern and American Houston Wedding with NBA Twist

It’s a pretty good sign when your groom takes your cultural traditions and family expectations into consideration when popping the question: “Being Middle Eastern, where the proposal is normally an official, formal, family event, Jonathan wanted to make sure my family was included in the special night,” says bride Rema. A week before her 30th birthday, on Memorial Day weekend at her parents’ house, Jonathan gave his future wife a pair of shoes she’d been coveting. Little did she know that her real gift—a gorgeous diamond engagement ring—was taped to the bottom of the shoebox. “I was speechless. It took about 30 seconds to actually say, ‘Yes,’ after the ring was on my finger. It was very memorable, and very respectful for Jonathan to include my family in the moment.” For her wedding, Rema wore Rivini from Ivory Bridal Atelier, and the couple and their 250 guests dined on braised short rib and danced to a mix of Arabic and American music. Rema’s favorite moment? “We had the Rockets game announcer”—Jonathan is senior manager of game operations and events for the NBA team—“announce us and our wedding party at the beginning of the reception. It sounded like the beginning of a basketball game. Very fun!” We hope y’all will have fun checking out Austin Miller Photography’s photos of this lovely Houston wedding. Drop your comments below!
