An Elegant Autumn Wedding Blending Cultures at The Astorian

Liz and Brent first crossed paths on Hinge at the start of the pandemic. Brent liked one of her photos, and she reached out, but received no response. Months later, after deleting her apps and eventually trying Bumble, she saw him again. Despite hesitating, she swiped right, and this time they matched. On their first date at a cozy wine bar, they discovered they’d gone to the same college, shared the same major, and even had mutual friends. It quickly felt like fate.

In spring 2022, Liz’s sister was getting married in Virginia. Wanting the whole family together before the newlyweds left on their honeymoon, Brent planned a simple moment in the botanical garden and proposed the next day. The timing felt sentimental but also overwhelming for Liz, who had a dental exam coming up and was still in the middle of wedding festivities. “I never let him live down that he proposed during the most stressful time,” the bride says. Once things had settled, they celebrated the engagement with a surprise party surrounded by friends.

Liz and Brent celebrated their love with an elegant autumn wedding at The Astorian. Before walking down the aisle, the couple shared a private first look and exchanged their vows, enjoying a quiet moment together. The ceremony blended their cultures, with an Eastern Orthodox crowning in a beautiful church. The celebration continued after the ceremony, with music and dancing. “I loved that our wedding was a celebration of both our cultures, but it was especially memorable seeing Brent’s friends and family dancing to Arabic music,” the bride shares. The evening ended with the newlyweds being showered in rose petals as they exited their reception.
