Though Maria wasn’t interested in Mohammed at first when she met him at a mutual friend’s birthday, the charismatic entrepreneur’s fluent Spanish soon won her over. “I wanted someone who spoke Spanish, to be able to communicate with my parents,” Maria says. “The more we talked, the more we realized how much we had in common.” What they did not have in common was background—he is of Bangladeshi heritage, she is of Mexican descent. So, what more perfect way to bring their backgrounds together, than with a great, big Bangladeshi-Mexican-Texan wedding, featuring stilt-walkers, dhol-players, mariachis, magicians, sparklers, choreographed dancers, a confetti cannon explosion, and, naturally, a real-live camel and monkeys? The spectacular celebration, at versatile Houston venue Las Velas, was, the bride says, “such a memorable night for all of us.”
