Dee + Jian
Dee and Jian met through mutual friends and by the third date Dee called her mother saying she had met her future husband. Following a romantic proposal at home, the couple wed at the Petroleum Club of Houston surrounded by a sophisticated palette of black, white and dusty rose. Their ceremony combined their Persian and Jordanian cultures, and included a beautiful Persian sofreh aghd—a ritual display that features sweets, coins, flowers, a symbolic "sugar cloth," and a book of poetry. Guests dined on crab-and-avocado salad, filet mignon, and chicken with mushrooms, followed by a classic four-tier vanilla cake with red-velvet filling from Cakes by Gina. The bride describes her wedding ambiance as "elegance with personal touches and Middle Eastern flair." A professional belly-dance performance was a highlight of the evening's entertainment, which also included American, Arabic and Persian music. "All of this was in a high-rise building in downtown Houston, where we watched the sunset from floor-to-ceiling windows," says the bride. The couple's favorite moment was sharing their first dance together as husband and wife against a backdrop of the scenic Houston skyline.
