Bright Peacock-Inspired Sangeet & Garden-Themed South Asian Wedding

Houston couple Sadie and Aneel’s off-the-charts proposal story, to no surprise, culminated in a one-of-a-kind South Asian celebration. Their wedding story began when the high-school sweethearts planned a “spontaneous” trip to Napa Valley, where Aneel had reserved a private terrace overlooking breathtaking grounds. There he showed Sadie a video he (with the help of their family and friends) created and aptly titled, “How to Propose to Sadie,” which she says was “super creative, sweet, funny, and definitely tear-jerking.” After the video concluded, Sadie turned to find Aneel on one knee with a gorgeous pear-shaped diamond ring just for her. We aren’t surprised she said, “Yes!”

The couple celebrated their nuptials with six events over three days, where “we prepared to eat, dance, and celebrate the fusion of two families,” Sadie says, beginning with a mehndi ceremony, where Sadie and her gals adorned themselves in intricate henna tattoos. The next day, the couple celebrated with a lively sangeet among 750 friends and family members. The night was complete with a peacock-inspired, Moroccan theme featuring purple, royal blue, turquoise and chartreuse florals and decor by Haute Flowers & Events…and a whole lot of dancing.

The following day, Sadie and Aneel formally said, “I do,” in a romantic garden-themed ceremony with soft coral, peach, ivory and pink hues, in front of 250 of their nearest and dearest.

Sadie glided down the aisle in a gorgeous lace trumpet gown from Weddings by Debbie, while Aneel waited for the moment when they could offer each other their personally written vows. After dancing the night away, yet again, the couple jetted off to a mini-moon where it all began: Napa Valley.

Mint and Coral DIY Wedding by Lindsay Elizabeth Photography

“We call our wedding our ‘fairytale wedding,’ because it truly was,” says bride Gina. “From the flowers, to the photographer, to the makeup, to our attire, to the music, to our guests…everything was just perfect.” Taking a DIY approach to their low-key, vintage-country celebration, Gina and Ryan planned their wedding together, treating friends and family to an intimate gathering where Texan touches abounded, and fun was the focus. As Gina explains, “We tried not to spend on things that we didn’t find special to us, and we invested in things that we found truly important. I got the dress I always dreamed of [a beautiful drop-waist, tiered Tara Keely from Weddings by Debbie], and Ryan loved his Vera Wang suit. We had our ceremony at a very small, intimate Methodist church with stained-glass windows and wooden pews. We used baby’s breath on the pews and for the bouquets and boutonnieres to create our vintage look. We took our pictures with our AMAZING photographer, Lindsay Elizabeth Strode of Lindsay Elizabeth Photography, outside of the church in a field that gave us such a fun, vintage country look…just what we were hoping to find. We then had our reception at local BBQ restaurant and dance hall, with hanging white lights from the celling, wood floors and bar, Texas country decor across the walls, and a big stage for the DJ to set up. We decorated with burlap and lace tablecloths, handmade mason jar centerpieces, and a green-theme candy bar, and we gave out personalized koozies. We danced the night away in our cowboy boots to our favorite music and favorite friends and family. We wouldn’t trade our wedding day for the world!”

Cream, Blush & Fuchsia Wedding by Steve Lee Photography at Brennan’s Houston

Rochelle caught Danny’s eye while he was walking to the food court in the Galleria. “After walking past Rochelle, the first thing I noticed were her eyes and how stunning she is,” says Danny. “After speaking to her I realized that she is beautiful not only on the outside, but inside as well. I knew one day, no matter what, she was going to be my wife.” It wasn’t long before the pair started planning their Houston wedding—with a New Orleans touch, to pay homage to their Louisiana roots. They had the best of both worlds, thanks to Brennan’s Houston. The guests enjoyed a four-course menu, including traditional gumbo and Creole potatoes (mmm…), followed by praline favors at the end of the night. Danny’s favorite moment? “Watching my wife walk down the aisle,” he says. We couldn’t be happier for these two. Check out their lovely photos from Steve Lee Photography below. Congrats Rochelle and Danny!

White, Green & Peach Wedding at Moffitt Oaks by Steve Lee Photography

It’s a pretty big deal for a Texan to trade in big, bright stars for concrete jungle of New York City. However, Sae decided to take on the challenge, and made the move to NYC to pursue a career practicing law…and to the greatest future he never saw coming. One fateful day, Tony, Sae’s friend, made lunch plans in the city. Tony decided to bring along his friend, Jody. Throughout lunch, Sae noticed “Jody’s hand gestures, her speech patterns, her aura—all intriguing.” He was absolutely mesmerized by how confident she was. However, the moment was fleeting…Jody needed to be at the airport for a flight. She was heading back to Texas and Sae was convinced he would never see her again. But a year down the road (or pavement, if you will), Sae felt Texas calling his name and he made the decision to give up his New York lifestyle. He ended up moving into Tony’s place—a great move on his part because Tony’s girlfriend was an active alum for the same sorority as Jody! It wasn’t long before an alumni dinner party brought him face to face with…the girl he never thought he would see again. Preparing himself to make a move, Sae recalls, “I was hyping myself up for an immeasurable feat.” While at the table, everyone began talking about smartphones and comparing features of each.  Sae saw his opportunity and seized it. “I slyly went around the table asking to examine each phone in faux-awe. When Jody’s phone landed in my hands, I surreptitiously, like an undercover agent, input my number and called myself. BINGO, got her number.” Smooth move—guys, take notes. The two began texting, getting to know each other more and over the next four years, they fell madly in love. However, Sae wanted the proposal to be mysterious and a total surprise. In a journal, he began to make a list of all the unique things he loved about Jody. Each page became a special part of her character. Sae presented Jody with the journal, and as she turned the pages, her smile grew bigger and bigger… until she arrived at the final page, which read, “Will you marry me?” On bended knee, Sae repeated his written question out loud and Jody said, “Yes!” Their wedding vision came to life with a rustic-chic lakeside ceremony at Moffitt Oaks, followed by an elegant yet easygoing barn reception. The couple insisted upon a unique celebration—one they had talked about for so long—complete with DIY touches everywhere. Jody was the picture of relaxed glamour as she walked down the aisle to her forever love in a Blue by Enzoani fit-and-flare gown from Weddings by Debbie. We couldn’t be happier that Jody and Sae’s wedding dreams came true. Thank you for these wonderful photos, Steve Lee Photography!
