You know how sometimes you’re sitting in your car, debating whether you should drag yourself over to happy hour with your squad…or head home for a lil’ Netflix and chill like you kinda want to? Yeah, you should prob pick door number 1. This is pretty much the decision Ryan was facing when he made the not-entirely-enthusiastic decision to attend a law-school happy hour social…and ended up changing his life forever.
“We talked and danced the night away, and even shared chocolate-chip pancakes at iHop,” says Kylie, who fell for her future hubs that fateful night, and eventually married him, in a multi-part wedding celebration that embraced Kylie’s Vietnamese background, and Ryan’s Mexican and American ones. “We wanted to fuse all of our cultures together to make our wedding day unique, and fun for our guests.” And we want to share this awesome Houston couple’s lovely and lively wedding with y’all. So go ahead, enjoy, and join us in wishing the newlyweds love!
“I also loved the idea of a California vineyard wedding, so I incorporated wine corks in the décor along with fresh garlands and lush white flowers,” says Kylie.
Kylie tells us her favorite moment was during their first dance to “Face The Sun” by Miguel.
Houston bride, Elandrea, had her eye on Mark for a while in college. “Luckily we had a mutual friend that talked to Mark for me. We exchanged numbers, became friends and started dating a year later,” she explains. When Mark started to think up the most creative way possible to propose, he channeled his tech background and created a game app that he was going to convince Elandrea to play. “He asked me to get my nails done, which struck me as odd, since was really not in his nature to do so. When I came home he also said that he wanted to take me for dinner,” adds Elandrea. “Before we left, he told me he wanted me to test out the game he was working on. I began to play the game like normal, and all of a sudden the song ‘Thinking Out Loud’ by Ed Sheeran came on, while images of us were popping up. Eventually a poem came on the screen, and then (here it comes!) a message that said, ‘Will you marry me,’” she recounts. The lovebirds tied the knot in front of their nearest and dearest at Hotel Galvez & Spa. “My aim for the wedding was a tropical feel with beautiful, vibrant colors,” says Elandrea. Their color palette of orange, purple, fuchsia and gold set the tone for a bright, fun wedding atmosphere.
“My favorite moment was dancing with my dad. We always clown together, so our dance was definitely a show to watch and remember,” Elandrea adds.
We couldn’t be happier for these two. Congrats and best wishes from all of us at Weddings in Houston!
After spending their first date in a yoga class, Keri and Michael decided to take their next outing to get to know each other better while strolling through Houston’s Buffalo Bayou Park. A date well spent, and a gorgeous Houston sunset later, the fitness-and-outdoors lovers decided to meet again… the very next day. Little did they know that Houston’s natural beauty would play into every major milestone they celebrated next.
Not all love stories start off with instant attraction. Just ask Callie, who did not hit it off with Eric when they first met at McGrady’s Pub in Charlottesville, Virginia during the Georgia vs. Florida game. Since they were rooting for opposing teams, Callie was, naturally, NOT a fan of Eric. “I would visit Charlottesville occasionally and he would always come over and ask if I wanted to get a drink with him. I refused,” Eric’s future bride says. Although she consistently turned him down, Eric was determined to get her to go out with him. He eventually reached out through Facebook, which turned into phone calls, FaceTime chats and finally the first date. Which turned into the second date. Then the third, fourth…twenty-seventh, etc. Until that magical day when Callie walked down the aisle in a gorgeous lace Anna Maier gown from Joan Pillow Bridal Salon, accessorized with her mom’s veil, sister’s bridal sash and grandmother’s rosary in her bouquet. “Our wedding was exactly what we wanted,” recounts Callie. “It was such a wonderful feeling to look at each other, know that we were married and surrounded by so many people who love us.” It’s true. Persistence always pays off, right Eric? We couldn’t be happier for the couple, and we wish them a lifetime of happiness. Thanks Adam Nyholt for the lovely photos!
WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON SPRING 2015 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE
Brooke & Austin ~ November 23, 2013
Like their Aruba engagement, high-school sweethearts Brooke and Austin’s destination wedding was set in a stunning seaside locale. The couple joined 75 of their closest friends and family at the Dominican Republic’s luxurious Sanctuary Cap Cana for a weekend celebration full of sun, sand and spectacular ocean views. The pair’s ceremony took place on a private island, where a white-linen-draped, orchid-bedecked chuppah “was the perfect backdrop to say, ‘I do!’” the bride notes. For their reception, the couple treated guests to a light-up dance floor where everyone let loose—they were on vacation, after all! “Our favorite memory of the wedding day was how laid back it was,” Brooke says. “It was so easy to just take a deep breath and truly enjoy our special day.”
