Jewel-Tone Art Deco Wedding by Civic Photos

Faye and Oussama were connected before they ever met—their families were long-time friends and the pair knew of each other but never spoke until the summer of 2013 when they both happened to be in Lebanon visiting family. “We ran into each other at the beach and instantly felt a connection. We spent the entire week together, and hit it off! Oussama and I ended up dating each other long distance for almost two years,” says Faye.

Faye gave us all the deets on how Oussama popped the question: “It was our two-year anniversary. After dinner, we went home, and once I walked in I noticed one of the rooms had lights strung all over the walls and candles everywhere. Oussama then handed me a Starbucks cup with my favorite coffee cup that said, ‘Will you marry me?’”

She wore a gorgeous strapless Maggie Sottero wedding dress from Weddings by Debbie, and her bridal party wore rose gold sequined dresses.

For their wedding reception, a jewel-tone color palette with gold accents brought depth and glamour to their chosen Art Deco wedding theme.

Favorite moments? “Our traditional Arab grand entrance to the reception. It was so special,” recounts Faye.

Life hack: If you step out of your comfort zone, you might just find your future soulmate! We know Houston bride, Kristen, agrees. She tells us how she happened to meet her future husband when she least expected it: “We met at a crawfish boil in 2015—I didn’t want to attend. I don’t even like crawfish! When I was about to leave, I saw some of his family members whom I knew, so I went by them to say hello, and was introduced to Tarek. We hit it off instantly and started dating… the rest is history!”

When it came time for Tarek to propose, he knew he was going to have to catch Kristen off guard. “I had to attend a work conference in Corpus Christi, and Tarek tagged along. After a long day of being in workshops, he suggested that we go for a nice dinner and get some Champagne. I thought it was peculiar that he wanted to order Champagne…he kept repeating it. I had a feeling he was going to propose after dinner—but it didn’t happen! We went for a stroll on the beach after dinner, and Tarek kneeled down declaring that he found a pearl. I bent down to look for the pearl and saw that he was holding a diamond ring,” says Kristen.

Kristen and Tarek wanted a subtle, yet elegant atmosphere for their wedding. To bring movement to the room, and allow for conversation, they chose mixed-height centerpieces that were not overwhelmingly large. “Our goal was to make the wedding fun, and make sure the guests enjoy themselves,” Kristen says.

Coral, Gold & Ivory Wedding at The Crystal Ballroom at The Rice

“I suppose time is a better friend of mine than I thought. Right when I was focused on doing me, fate sent me a friend, partner, confidant and love all in one—Rebekah,” says Rasauli. Rebekah—personal trainer and nutritionist of Be a 10 Fitness—stole Rasauli’s heart within moments of them meeting, and he was determined to make her his wife.

Rebekah tells us how it all went down. “We went to Brennan’s Houston to celebrate our anniversary that was coming up. Our table was located in a private room, which was covered in rose petals. The chef came to the table and said that he prepared a special menu for us. In the middle of dinner, Rasauli asked to be excused from the table. At this point I was trying not to get too excited! I just knew he was going to come back with a ring—but instead he came back with an anniversary card. I was so disappointed, and I told him that I was expecting him to propose. He grabbed my hand and told me that I have to be patient. Right then, the waiter came by with a large covered ‘dessert’ dish. Once he removed the lid, I found a diamond ring! Before I knew it, he was down on one knee and my dad came from behind me to give me a hug.”

The lovebirds tied the knot at the Crystal Ballroom at The Rice with a 150 of their closest family and friends in attendance. “We wanted an elegant wedding with a classic New Orleans twist. We incorporated special dances and umbrellas, and had our guests involved, which created such a fun environment. My favorite moments include our first dance, the ‘second line’ dance, and when my matron of honor sung a special song for me,” says Rebekah.

Rustic-Elegant Barn Wedding by Plants N’ Petals

If we were to give out awards for adorable proposal stories, we’d definitely have to hand one out to Houston couple Britnie and Valentino. “When Britnie and I first started dating, we used to jam out to ‘Anyone Else But You’ by The Moldy Peaches, but we added our own lyrics,” says Valentino. So, naturally, when Valentino had the opportunity to propose to Britnie in front of 200 people at a church retreat, he decided to sing out the beloved indie hit…his way. It went a little something like this: “I am a Jedi and you were an English major/I’ll always protect you with my blue light saber/Here I kneel on this one knee/Oh Britnie, will you tell me you’ll marry me/Because I don’t see this ring more fitting for anyone else but you.” Just like that he swept his beloved off her feet, and they tied the knot a year later with their dearest family and friends in attendance, surrounded by insanely gorgeous flowers and decor from Plants N’ Petals. They even included their favorite Houston hangouts, Southside Espresso, as a vendor at the wedding, which “gave our guests a great non-alcoholic option,” the groom says. Good friends find your keys for you. A best friend finds your future husband for you! That’s what Caroline did for Kathleen, by creating a Match.com account for her bestie…and finding Nick. Although Kathleen wasn’t keen on meeting anyone online, she promised Caroline that she would meet her friend’s boyfriend-material pick, but she couldn’t have known that she and her Match match would end up talking for hours on their first date, until the restaurant shut down, and eventually become an inseparable couple. Fast forward to Kathleen and Nick’s classic-with-a-modern-twist tent wedding, where 210 of their loved ones gathered to witness them tie the knot, then danced the night away beneath a bountiful floral chandelier. Their palette of blush, pink, white and yellow brought to life their vision of a springtime garden wedding, while late-night favors of Whataburger honey-chicken biscuits brought nourishment to guests upon their departure.
