Houston wedding bakery Cakes by Gina has a new look that is oh-so-sweet!

Cakes by Gina opened as a small Houston bakery with passionate cake-maker Gina Gutierrez at its helm 17 years ago. Within five years, Cakes by Gina’s popularity skyrocketed after winning over engaged couples with her exceptional and delicious wedding cake designs. The bakery quickly outgrew its space and the newly expanded kitchen opened up a world of new possibilities.

Cakes by Gina took the slowdown caused by Covid to give the bakery a bright, fresh and playful makeover! The bakery has been transformed into an adorable wedding cake paradise with its wall-to-wall display of cakes showcasing the newest trends and techniques. The cute awnings in Cakes by Gina’s signature pink and white, welcome you into a cake showroom decorated with tables in fun pops of color. We especially love their chic Instagram wall with a “Love is Sweet” neon sign, making it a fun spot to commemorate booking your wedding baker! “Our fun and memorable atmosphere is what we wanted our customers to experience as soon as they walk through the door and we’ve been getting nothing but amazing feedback,” says Cakes by Gina marketing & events coordinator, Melanie Jackson. “We are excited to push forward and continue to thrive with our new look for years to come!”

Black, White and Metallics Modern Wedding By Plants N’ Petals

Venue: Hotel ZaZa Memorial City | Flowers: Plants N’ Petals | Photo: Nancy Aidee Photography

Amanda and Andrew met in 2012 while attending a Texas Christian University football game where they both went to school. Fast-track to six years later: While on a trip in New York City, Amanda’s favorite city, Andrew arranged a surprise of a lifetime during a carriage ride through Central Park…a proposal!

For their summer wedding, the couple chose the modern and sophisticated Hotel ZaZa Memorial City as their wedding venue: “Hotel ZaZa was amazing to work with!” says the bride. Amanda and Andrew tied the knot in a traditional Jewish ceremony beneath a gorgeous chuppah adorned with fresh white flowers, beautifully designed by Plants N’ Petals. For their ballroom reception, “The theme was modern with black, white and metallic highlights,” featuring lush floral centerpieces, chic black tablecloths and oversized crystal chandeliers, all anchored by a gleaming black and white dance floor with dramatic uplighting. Guests indulged in a six-tier amaretto cake with white buttercream frosting and a cookies and cream groom’s cake in the shape of Texas with the TCU logo, both from Cakes by GinaThe joyous newlyweds enjoyed a confetti send-off through Hotel ZaZa before joining their guests at their “Happily Ever After Party” where a DJ, lounge furniture, glow-in-the-dark crowns and necklaces, and after-party drinks and eats awaited them.

We are so excited to feature this gorgeous Houston couple and their stunning modern wedding. Congratulations, Amanda & Andrew!

Romantic And Intimate Summer Wedding By Ama By Aisha

Planning a wedding is hard enough…but planning a wedding in the middle of a global pandemic is even harder! College sweethearts Elly and Trevor faced countless challenges while trying to navigate their intimate summer wedding in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic. Should they postpone? Should they cancel? Or should they stick to their original date? Luckily love prevailed and they managed to pull off the celebration of a lifetime at The Astorian“COVID-19 was definitely the biggest obstacle for us,” says the bride. “We had planned, postponed, then decided on June 19th that we were going to get married on our original date (June 27th), no matter what the day looked like. Everything seemed to fall into place after we made the decision to move forward and called our vendors. It ended up being the most gorgeous day I could have ever imagined. It was the ideal intimate wedding experience.” A gorgeous day indeed, and we are so thankful towards Houston wedding photographer Ama By Aisha for beautifully capturing their special day!

Following their church ceremony, the couple joined 50 of their nearest and dearest at The Astorian for an intimate wedding reception. The reception decor was romantic and elegant, featuring a beautiful summer color palette of white, blush and green with champagne and dusty blue accents. Menu highlights from Cordúa Catering included Golf crab cakes, smoked lamb lollichops, and truffled grilled cheese. The meal’s sweet finish featured a five-tier white wedding cake accented with blue Italian tile print and a yeti groom’s cake, both from Cakes By GinaThe memorable night ended with the couple exiting under a shower of golden sparklers before making their getaway in a vintage 1955 Rolls Royce. The bride’s favorite moment? “Getting ready with my girls in The Astorian bridal suite was perfect,” says the bride. “We blasted our music and drank mimosas while getting our hair and makeup done!” We’re so happy that everything worked out for newlyweds Elly and Trevor and excited to share their romantic and intimate summer wedding with y’all. Congratulations, Elly & Trevor!
