Not only is this our very first featured Iron Manor wedding…but it’s also got one of the sweetest courtship stories we’ve heard! Ruben and Axxa first met when he was 14 and she was 15, at a church summer camp. But the two shared a platonic friendship for six years before Axxa realized her true feelings for the man who would one day become her husband. For Ruben, the “a-ha” moment had come along a bit earlier in their friendship. “Ruben had a crush on me since the beginning, so I guess he was just waiting on me to come to my senses,” the bride tells us. One late fall day in 2018, the pair took a road trip with some close friends to the Magnolia Market Silos in Waco. As Axxa recounts, “We were taking group pictures when my best friend asked if she could take a picture of just Ruben and me. After a few pictures I turned around and he was on one knee. I cried, and of course I said, ‘Yes!'” Even more fun was in store for newly engaged Axxa upon their return back home. As they approached, “Ruben blindfolded me, and when he took off the blindfold I was overcome with emotion as I saw all my friends and family there to celebrate my engagement. It was the sweetest day,” she says. Fast-forward to January 30 of this year, when the couple joined 200 loved ones to celebrate their marriage at Iron Manor, a magnificent new industrial-regal event space set on beautifully manicured grounds in the forested landscape of Montgomery. “For our wedding decor, we wanted something dreamy and moody,” notes Axxa, describing a palette of jewel tones with gold accents, and arrangements of unique, textural flowers, including red astilbe, burgundy gypsophilia, blue thistle and chocolate Queen Anne’s Lace. The couple wed in the Iron Manor wedding chapel, Axxa dressed in an A-line Hayley Paige gown from Now & Forever Bridal Boutique, as soaring windows looking out onto ink-blue sky served as their backdrop. For the reception, they opted for comfort food favorites, and danced the night away beneath sparkling chandeliers surrounded by the Gothic-Victorian brick-and-steel elegance of Iron Manor’s Crane Hall, while Civic Photos captured the magic. “It was honestly the most fun I’ve had in my entire life,” says Axxa. “We played limbo, had a conga line, played ‘Vibora de la Mar,’ and had plenty of dancing. I get so happy just thinking about that night. I’m so blessed and grateful to have experienced such a magical evening with the person, and people, I love most.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves. Congratulations, Ruben & Axxa!
