When we asked bride Eryn to tell us her favorite piece of clothing in her wardrobe, she didn’t hesitate: “My Victorian-style button boots! I do historical costuming as a hobby, and you have to have the right shoes.” So it’s no surprise that for her wedding to Patrick, the couple leaned toward Victorian wedding styling, especially in their attire. What was surprising was that Eryn designed her wedding dress herself, and made it by hand. “At first, my mom was apprehensive about my intention to make my own dress,” she admits. “We had a few emotional conversations about it at the start of things–she was worried about my stress level and the time it would take. She never doubted me though, and supported me through the whole process. She was right about the time and the stress, but it was so worth it!” Groom Patrick looked properly dapper at her side, wearing his tailcoat and top hat, and a smile as big as Texas!
The pair spoke their vows in a Catholic church ceremony attended by 120 loved ones. For their hotel ballroom reception, the couple treated their guests to a perfect blend of Victorian wedding touches mixed with contemporary elegance and fun–a feat managed beautifully by Grayhouse Events Atelier. “Our event representative at the hotel referred us to Jim Gray, and hiring him was the best decision we made,” Eryn says. “Jim introduced us to the most amazing vendors, and the whole team pulled together to bring our vision to life. We threw Jim a few curveballs…such as Patrick wanting a tailcoat, and me sewing my own dress. But no matter what we asked him to assist us with, he knew exactly who to talk to! And we couldn’t have asked for more.” It’s not often that we get to share a themed wedding with you, especially one that balances vintage thematic elements with contemporary entertainment (high-energy dancing, confetti) and food (gluten-free chocolate cake) so seamlessly.
