Karen and Paul first crossed paths at their high school in Austin, forming a friendship that summer after graduation. As Paul attended SMU and Karen went to Auburn, their paths diverged for college.

After college, both moved to Dallas to launch their careers. One morning, Paul spontaneously asked Karen for drinks, rekindling their bond and compelling an instant connection. “Everything was just right at the right time,” the bride says.

When Paul invited Karen out for a romantic dinner, she anticipated a special evening between the two. While en route to dinner, Paul detoured to a park where he got down on one knee. After joyful celebrations with friends and family back at the site of their first magical date, the couple’s Grand Galvez wedding plans began.

On October 15, 2022, Karen and Paul celebrated their love with a sweet first look before exchanging vows in a local Galveston church. Guests then enjoyed cocktail hour inside the historic hotel before entering the reception space decorated in tropical hues. The bride says, “When we were planning the wedding, I realized the cocktail hour would be for the guests, and we would miss it. I was really sad thinking about it. I wanted to see everyone, but then I also realized this would be the only point in the night for Paul and I to spend together, so we enjoyed champagne at sunset and had so much fun taking photos in front of the Grand Galvez. It was low pressure and allowed us to relax and enjoy a little downtime.”

The Veranda’s floor-to-ceiling windows provided serene views of the Gulf’s tranquil blue-green waters, accentuating the couple’s coastal theme. Vibrant florals and lush greenery adorned the reception tables, creating a tropical oasis for friends and family to celebrate the newlyweds.
