Despite growing up over 7,000 miles apart, it was destiny that brought Andrea and Vincent together. Andrea grew up on a farm in Kansas, eventually leaving the countryside to pursue a career in the hotel sales industry in New York City. Similar reasons brought Vincent to The Big Apple. While he grew up in Belgium, a career in the hotel industry also brought him to New York.
When Vincent first moved to the city, one of his coworkers suggested he meet up with Andrea who used to work there too and could offer some great insights. Vincent agreed, and the coworker called Andrea to set everything up (what a great matchmaker, right?). Initially, Andrea had just returned from the Kentucky Derby and wasn’t much interested in grabbing drinks the very next Monday. But, she finally caved and agreed to meet this mystery man.
Emily and Nicolas met when Nicolas was overseeing a soccer league and training the kids Emily was a nanny to. He was known as the “Hot Cuban Soccer Coach” and she was called “Romper Girl” because Emily started dressing cuter in hopes of Nicolas noticing her…and it worked! “I knew from almost the first moment that he would be my husband.” On Sept. 10, 2019, Nicolas proposed to Emily with a beautiful custom designed oval solitaire ring on a beach in Costa Maya in the presence of his family.
Emily, being a fabulous wedding photographer, has seen countless variations of color palettes, themes and ideas, so for her very own wedding she notes, “I wanted to mix in the slightest bit of boho in our otherwise modern and simplistic wedding theme. We ended up with touches of black to contrast the neutrals, white, champagne and blush.” The couple said their vows amidst 80 loved ones in an intimate al fresco ceremony before commencing with a joyous indoor reception. The biggest obstacle the couple faced while planning their fall wedding was “Just trying to make sure that, even during Covid, we were being as safe as possible, but still got to have the wedding of our dreams. It was so tiring planning the wedding, but when the wedding day finally came, none of it mattered and it was the most beautiful and perfect day!”
Join us in wishing this gorgeous Houston couple a lifetime of love and scroll down to swoon over this modern boho wedding. Congratulations, Emily & Nicolas!
A week after moving back from Stuttgart, Germany, Ian, an Opera singer and the venue director of Conroe event venue Madera Estates, met Paul at McGovern Centennial Gardens during a holiday party in 2016. Two years later, Paul proposed to Ian in NYC after a Broadway show, on top of the iconic Empire State building. It was only fitting for the couple to select Madera Estates for their winter nuptials! “As the venue owner of Madera Estates, we knew immediately we wanted to play to the strengths of the venue, while also doing something completely different and unique to us,” says Ian. “Our leap day wedding was a vintage, Spanish-inspired evening filled with an abundance of candlelight. Deep and rich colors of navy, burgundy, and saffron were complimented by talavera and handmade wrought iron pieces.”
Guests were greeted upon arrival with flower-adorned beer burros and the women in the wedding party wore Frida Kahlo inspired headpieces. The couple tied the knot in a romantic twilight ceremony followed by a show-stopping fireworks display. The celebration moved indoors to Madera Estates’ Hacienda and the newlyweds made their grand reception entrance with adorable alpacas. The evening’s entertainment kicked off with Ian and Paul’s first dance where a drag queen interrupted them acting as a jilted bride! A churro bar and boozy hot chocolate fueled guests for a lively “La Hora Loca” featuring characters on stilts and light up foam sticks. The greatest challenge Ian faced while planning their festive wedding was, “Letting go! As an industry professional, it was hard to not micromanage the process or even day-of details. I call it the blessing and the curse!”
We are so excited to feature this handsome Houston couple and their vintage Spanish-inspired wedding, captured in such detail by Ama By Aisha. Congratulations, Ian & Paul!
