When Adam took Hannah to the terrace of the Hilton Americas-Houston, she thought he’d brought her there to celebrate her freedom from the job she’d disliked and recently quit. But, at the elegant Downtown property, with the sunset skyline as their backdrop, he took her completely by surprise when instead of congratulating her on her liberating career move…he asked her to be his wife! After the big question, “Adam told me that my family was downstairs in the bar lounge waiting to celebrate with us,” Hannah recounts. “I was so happy. The whole experience was perfect. He did a fantastic job!” The couple’s classic white wedding was textured with touches of greenery, along with lush ivory floral arrangements and shimmering linens from Houston event designer Plants N’ Petals. “My favorite moment was when our 19-month-old niece ran up to us during our husband-and-wife dance,” Hannah says. “She got away from Mommy on accident, but it was a super cute moment that everyone gushed over!” Join us in gushing over Houston wedding photographer Blanca Duran’s gorgeous photos of this classic white wedding, and wishing Hannah & Adam all of our love, always. “Austin and I went to the same elementary school, but being in different grades, we didn’t know each other well,” says bride Emily. But, fatefully it turns out, their mothers became close friends in recent years, and Austin’s mom invited Emily’s family to attend her 93-year-old uncle’s wedding, at her house, to his 84-year-old girlfriend (!!). Emily attended the nuptial celebration, and, well…who wouldn’t be prompted to fall in love in the presence of such a wedding! For the couple’s own marriage celebration, Galveston was a natural choice: “Both of us have over 100 years of family connections to the island,” Emily explains, noting that her grandparents had their own wedding reception at Hotel Galvez & Spa (Austin and Emily’s choice of venue), in 1946. Their Catholic ceremony included a special message imparted by Pope Francis on how to love one another during marriage, which Emily counts as a highlight of their wedding day. For their reception, the hotel’s famed Music Hall was decorated with lush flowers in shades of blush and ivory, and tabletop decor featuring pops of midnight blue and sparkling gold. Enjoy this peek into the pair’s classic, elegant Texas wedding celebration, through photos by Houston’s immensely talented Kelli Durham, and join us in wishing these two a lifetime of love and happiness!

I think one thing all couples can agree on is that they want their wedding photos to be “timeless,” meaning they will still be appealing and in style (aside from fleeting fashion trends), five, 10 or 20 years from now. Probably the most important photography aspects for achieving this sense of timelessness—and ones I often see overlooked in wedding photography—are editing style and posing.
Of course, words like “timeless” and “stylish” are all relative. Everyone has their own definition of what is classic and enduring, and each individual couple has their own specific tastes. That said, I’ve been shooting weddings as a full-time profession for 10 years and I believe these are some of the things to consider when selecting a photographer who’ll give you photos that stand the test of time: Click here to read the rest of this post »
