Wondering what to expect from a professional bridal hair and makeup session? Curious about what bridal hairstyles and makeup looks are on-trend for 2019 and 2020 brides? Want to know where you can go to get flawless airbrush makeup application, gorgeous lashes and a fabulous half-up-half-down ‘do for you…and beachy waves for your bridesmaids?? We’ve got answers to these questions and more, in our exclusive bridal hair and makeup Q&A with Truc Pham, owner of the The Bridal Suite—Houston’s go-to salon for complete bridal beauty (and YES, they’ll come to you, too!).
Weddings in Houston: How and when did you first get involved in bridal and bridesmaids hair and makeup?
Truc Pham: Since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a fascination with the beauty industry! I did my cosmetology education at Paul Mitchell and started doing hair and makeup professionally eight years ago. I’ve focused primarily on bridal hair styling and makeup for seven years.
WIH: What are your most in-demand bridal hair and makeup styles and services right now?
TP: The most highly requested hair style would be a half up/down style. It’s the perfect look for brides who are in between wanting an updo and leaving their hair down on their wedding day. Not to mention, it is flattering on any bride! As far as makeup, 90 percent of our brides want a flawless look that enhances their natural beauty, which is why we always recommend airbrush foundation. It is a very seamless finish, and great for brides who want light coverage but more than what they usually wear on a daily basis. And, of course, a set of complementary lashes! We have our signature bridal lashes, which suit any eye shape, and we also offer dramatic lashes for our brides who really want to emphasize their eyes.

WIH: Do you offer these both in-salon and on a mobile basis?
TP: Our services are provided in salon or we can go to the client’s location of choice.
WIH: What are your top tips to brides for getting their hair and skin in shape prior to having their hair and makeup done professionally on the big day?
TP: Exfoliation and masking diligently the month of their wedding day. And drink lots of water! Makeup can only help so much. You’ve got to have a good canvas to work on. Staying hydrated and taking good care of your skin definitely helps for a smoother makeup application.

WIH: What bridal/bridesmaid hair and makeup trends are your seeing for late 2019 and 2020 brides?
TP: Anything with texture! We have been seeing an increase in textured updo requests. Not so much like a messy updo, but more of a deconstructed hairstyle with texture on the top of the hair to create a looser look. Also, a fuller bun/chignon with more texture! Having a few falling pieces coming out of the bun is also a good style that softens the look for any bride.
