Kailey and Stephen both downloaded Bumble out of boredom during the pandemic, and one right swipe changed everything. After a few weeks of texting, they finally met for crepes and a walk around Sugar Land’s Town Square lake, where they bonded over their shared love of animals, travel, and hiking. The rest of that summer was spent falling in love before embarking on three years of long-distance. On the fourth anniversary of their first date, the couple reunited in Houston to begin their lives together.

Stephen proposed at the Japanese Tea Garden in San Antonio, sneaking down a quiet trail in search of privacy from the many prom groups taking photos that evening. Afterward, they celebrated in true Texas fashion. “The waiters brought out their secret stash of homebrewed moonshine to celebrate (along with champagne, of course!),” Kailey says.

On May 25, 2024, the couple exchanged vows in a Catholic ceremony filled with emotion. Guests were especially moved as Kailey’s father walked her down the aisle, having recently been diagnosed with cancer.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds hosted a lively New Orleans-inspired jazz brunch at The Grove, nestled among the trees in Discovery Green. Decor in shades of green, gold and white set the scene, while guests enjoyed dishes like crab Benedict, bananas Foster French toast, and blackened redfish on the half shell. The celebration culminated with a spirited second line through Discovery Green, complete with unexpected (and unforgettable) cameos. “We ended up getting married the same weekend as Comicpalooza, which led to many laughs as Darth Vader, Deadpool and other characters joined the parade and wished us well,” Kailey says.
