Shon + John
Introduced by a mutual friend two decades ago, Shon and John’s relationship started out as a professional one: “I was in the real-estate finance business and Shon was a real-estate appraiser and construction contractor,” John explains. “Over the years, Shon and I spent many hours strategizing and developing business ideas for projects that eventually led to a profitable business relationship.” And that meeting of the minds, he says, ultimately led not only to their co-ownership of popular Phil & Derek’s Jazz Lounge but also to the deepest kind of love. The pair celebrated their marriage union with a magnificent wedding at Corinthian Houston, draped in crystals and filled with lush white floral arrangements by Plants N’ Petals, and Shon looked absolutely stunning in a couture gown by local designer David Peck. Notes John: “The venue was palatial, the decor was astonishing, the food and music were outstanding, and best of all, Shon looked like a queen. It was everything we had imagined, and more.” Besides being a beautiful event, their wedding was a charitable one: In lieu of gifts, the couple asked that their guests donate to their two favorite charities, while the newlyweds presented checks for $10,000 each to their own favorite charities at the end of the evening.
