Having begun sewing at the age of 15, Minerva Wooldridge quickly moved on to creating custom wedding gowns from hand-selected materials and exquisite embellishments, eventually founding her own Houston atelier, MW Couture<\/a>. She is known throughout Houston\u00a0and the U.S. as an alterations expert and designer of heirloom-quality\u00a0special-occasion garments, who follows a strict set of rules to ensure that every bride leaves her store with the perfect fit. \u201cMy goal is to put my quality on display all the time,\u201d she says. \u201cYou don\u2019t take your dress from here unless you are 100 percent happy and satisfied.\u201d We talked with Wooldridge about her rigorous regimen, known to her and her staff as \u201cThe Eight Commandments.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

1. The First Fitting <\/b>\u2014 Wooldridge and her team strive to create the most welcoming and comfortable environment possible for the clients who have entrusted MW Couture with their wedding-day look. One way she does this is by reminding brides from the very first phone call\u00a0to bring their slip, bra and shoes to their first\u00a0fitting, so she and her team\u00a0can get the entire look right from\u00a0the get-go.<\/p>\n

2. Dress With Care <\/b>\u2014 Wooldridge also dresses the bride herself, paying special attention to every detail of the dress. She says that this helps her client\u00a0feel more confident, as she expertly sets the gown to each bride\u2019s body.<\/p>\n

3. Find the Vibe<\/b> \u2014 \u201cSometimes having the bride\u00a0describe her\u00a0wedding is like looking into a crystal\u00a0ball. It lets me know her personality,\u201d Wooldridge says. By hearing more about the event, Wooldridge can determine\u00a0if she should go more romantic, modern or elegant with the design and fitting.<\/p>\n

4. Listen and Answer<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 \u201cThe first time the bride comes in she might be very emotional,\u201d Wooldridge says. She and her team listen intently to make sure they don\u2019t miss any key elements the bride might\u00a0mention, and that they answer\u00a0all questions and address all concerns with confidence and empathy.<\/p>\n

5. Talk It Out <\/b>\u2014 Once alterations are underway, Wooldridge and her team go into great detail to explain all changes\u00a0that have been made to the dress and offer any further ideas they might have, leaving the floor open\u00a0for the bride to ask\u00a0questions of her own. \u201cEverything has a solution,\u201d Wooldridge says. \u201cI am trying to find the best solution, so she can have a\u00a0dress that is both personal and unique.\u201d<\/p>\n

6. Right On Time<\/b>\u00a0\u2014 The team at MW Couture is always conscious of brides\u2019 timeframes and takes pride in\u00a0making achievable alterations within acceptable pickup dates.<\/p>\n

7. Quality, Quality, Quality<\/b> \u2014 Wooldridge insists that all alterations at MW Couture are \u201cequal to or better than the original construction of the dress.\u201d We can vouch for that!<\/p>\n
