Blush & Cream Houston Wedding by J. Cogliandro Photography

This Houston wedding story is going to give you all the feels, so be prepared! Lindsey and Drew met in February of 2012 at the Philadelphia airport’s international check-in. They were on their way to a 10-day adventure in Israel with a group organization, and by the end of the trip they had each separately told their friends that they found their person. Lindsey had no clue Drew had said the same thing to his friends that she had, until the night of their rehearsal dinner, when Drew’s best man recalled in his speech, “Drew came home and said he’d met the girl he was going to marry.” Goosebumps. Drew absolutely insisted on proposing in a way that would mean the world to Lindsey. He had been working with Lindsey’s boss to get her to Philadelphia airport’s international check-in for a fake business trip…and he proposed right there where they’d first met many years ago. “The area was empty except for one older security staff member, who told us we had restored his faith in humanity,” the bride recounts. After spending the entire day in Philadelphia to celebrate as a newly engaged couple, Lindsey and Drew were returned home to a surprise celebration with their families! The pair then started to plan their Houston wedding. With 230 of their friends and loved ones in attendance, Lindsey and Drew said, “I do.” However, they took the traditional wedding series of events into their own hands. One of their favorite memories was their “first look” at Discovery Green, after which they stopped with their entire wedding party to have a pre-ceremony drink while taking pictures with J. Cogliandro Photography. (We seriously love this idea!) It’s safe to say that Lindsey and Drew have restored our faith in humanity, too. We couldn’t be happier for this sweet couple!

Modern Architecture Inspired Wedding at Hotel ZaZa by Akil Bennett Photography

Mothers have a knack for picking out things they are sure their daughter will like. Carrie’s mom knew that she would like James, and she was right. The two lovebirds instantly hit it off and the rest was history. James planned the perfect intimate proposal in the Four Seasons Houston Hotel private wine room and later joined friends and family who were waiting to celebrate in the main dining room. When planning their wedding, Carrie and James had a vision of their Hotel ZaZa wedding to feel like a fabulous, modern cocktail party, and that’s exactly what it was. “The décor had a modern feel to it with the main design theme being the absence of a color scheme. Instead, we chose to go with architectural light displays and black accents”, says Carrie. The reception was a party that you wouldn’t want to miss, and the guests fully enjoyed every bit of the band, comedian, cigar roller station, and caricature artist while nibbling on delish Nutella and chocolate chip cookies and mini coke floats! Sounds pretty amazing, right? Wait ‘til you see all the sweet pictures from Akil Bennett! Congrats and best wishes to the newlyweds!

BEAUTIFUL Bell Tower on 34th Street Wedding by Steve Lee Photography

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON Spring 2015 | Real Wedding Feature

Rachel & Kurt ~ July 11, 2014

For their once-in-a-lifetime celebration, UT alums Rachel and Kurt chose The Bell Tower on 34th St., and it’s easy to see why. With its gorgeous grounds, vine-covered walls, hidden archways and spectacular interior, the beloved Bell Tower was the perfect place to gather 240 guests for an evening of dining, dancing and pure, exuberant joy. The bride enchanted everyone in her gorgeous Watters gown from fabulous Mia Bridal Couture–which, we might add, photographer Steve Lee Weddings captured magnificently against a series of Bell Tower backgrounds. Notes Rachel: “Kurt and I truly feel that our perfect evening lasted forever as we got to soak up every moment of happiness and fun of the party.” As for us? We note that this wedding was one of our favorites of the year! Best of luck, and much love, to the newlyweds. And big thanks to The Bell Tower on 34th, and Steve Lee Weddings, for sharing this beautiful event with us…and YOU!

Elegant Black, Gold & Pink Wedding at the Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa by D. Jones Photography

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Lisa and Donald ~ January 19, 2014

While their Match.com introduction might not be the essence of tradition, Don’s request to Lisa’s dad for permission to marry his daughter certainly was. “After getting my dad’s blessing, he dropped to one knee and I said, ‘Yes!’” recalls the bride—who also happens to be director of catering and conferences for one of Houston’s most revered wedding venues: The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. Naturally, the couple wed at Lisa’s longtime place of employment, aided in planning by the hotel’s social catering manager, Jim Gray. Highlights of the joyful occasion included a ceremony filled with poignant readings by the couple’s many family members. Avid foodies both, Don and Lisa incorporated wine pairings into their lavish menu, and treated guests to exquisite desserts, almond-and-raspberry wedding cake, and postprandial cigars. “My favorite part of the night was singing and dancing with my niece and goddaughter Caroline to—yes—‘Sweet Caroline,’ by Neil Diamond,” Lisa recalls happily. “The entire room joined in!”
