“Ahren and I met freshman year at University of Houston through mutual friends. We lost touch after I moved to Chicago and he started Optometry school. We reconnected in 2010 and I asked him out on a date and the rest was history!” Ada says. “We decided to have a traditional Catholic ceremony for Ahren’s side followed by a traditional Chinese tea ceremony for my family,” adds Ada. After both ceremonies, it was time to party! The reception started with the bridal party entering to the Houston Rockets introduction song while the guests were given surprise goodie bags with sparklers and glow sticks. After a lovely dinner, Ada and Ahren danced the night away with their nearest and dearest. “It was definitely a dream wedding!” says Ada. Congrats to the newlyweds!

Ivory, Lavender & Sage Wedding at The Bell Tower on 34th Street

What are the odds that a speed-dating mixer will lead to a happily ever after? Well, Raquel and Robert beat the odds and instantly hit it off. Ten months after meeting at the mixer, Robert wined and dined Raquel at Antica Osteria. “I guessed halfway through dinner what was going to happen,” says Raquel. After dinner Robert took Raquel to Hermann Park for an intimate proposal. “For some reason, all of the lights were out at the park. Nevertheless, the proposal was in true form of our relationship- a little bit of tradition mixed with corky romance, but always full of surprises and good laughs!” adds Raquel. The pair wanted a romantic, garden theme wedding with lots of candles, which perfectly complemented The Bell Tower on 34^th Street. “We wanted to include hint of our Asian and Irish heritage through the colors and favors,” she adds. It was only appropriate that Raquel married her Prince Charming in a Rivini gown from Mia Bridal Couture paired with satin white Badgley Mischka peep-toe pumps. *Sigh* Just wait ‘til you see the lovely photos! While European-themed Chateau Polonez was the site of their spring wedding, it was the allure of the islands that served as inspiration for Julie and Justin’s memorable celebration. The couple, who became engaged in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, and would eventually honeymoon in French Polynesia, infused their special day with “beachy” elements, from a blue-and-coral palette to sand-rock-and-starfish candle displays, to guest tables named for famed island destinations. Did the newlyweds sail off into the sunset? Not exactly. But after hours of dancing and dining with those they loved most, they did drive off in a 1965 Rolls-Royce the groom had always coveted. “We had such a wonderful time,” the bride says, “and were so thankful to have our family and loved ones there.”

Having begun their courtship at the University of Georgia, it’s no surprise that Kelli and A.J. wanted their wedding to “feel like an elegant garden party at a Southern home.” As the bride describes, “The ambiance began with a drive up scenic River Oaks Blvd. with Houston’s most beautiful homes,” and continued with a gracious country-club setting, decorated with soft-pink peonies, mercury-glass votives, twinkle-lights and French armchairs. A reception menu filled with Southern favorites—fried green tomatoes, shrimp and grits, pulled-pork sliders—nourished guests for a night of dancing to live music. As the night progressed, guests enjoyed hand-rolled Cuban cigars on the starlit patio, and late-night chicken-and-waffle bites. Jo Ann Schwartz Woodward (of wedding consulting firm Schwartz & Woodward) was great at listening to our vision and implementing it flawlessly,” Kelli says. “It was truly the wedding of our dreams!”

New to Houston while preparing for her wedding, bride Farnaz found planning her perfect day a bit of a challenge. But, with the help of close friend, she did her research—and created an event she’d never forget. The bride wed her groom, Amir, in a traditional Persian ceremony, attended by 100 of their closest friends and family, after which the newlyweds joined their guests for a Mediterranean feast, followed by dancing—lots and lots of dancing, which, the bride says, is her fondest memory of the big day. Award-winning Houston event-design firm Plants N’ Petals lent its fine floral talents to the black-tie affair, making a beautiful day even more beautiful.
