Relishing in the Romance — Nicholas and Nikoya’s Crystal Ballroom wedding was the epitome of love on display. Their elated expressions and bashful grins throughout the night touched the hearts of their family and closest friends.

Little Ones — There is nothing like having an adorable child carry a sign down the aisle, in advance of the bride and groom, to ease wedding-day tension, and get everyone laughing.

Destination Sessions — We love to travel the world, and destination weddings are always extra special. The Golden Gate Bridge was a perfect backdrop for Anthone and Ashley. We can’t wait to capture their love in a California vineyard at their upcoming wedding.

A Gushing Groom — Some men do not like taking engagement photos. But after we ease their nerves and they get comfortable in front of the lens, their love and affection can be felt from both sides.

Bridal Portraits — Kristen brought her A-game to her bridal shoot at The Corinthian. Her gorgeous lace dress, and the grand columns and uplighting, set the stage for us to get the perfect shot.

Welcome Mr. and Mrs. — Jacob and Gabby were so elated the moment they were introduced as Mr. and Mrs. The crowd went wild, and this moment made all the planning and waiting worthwhile.

Letting Loose — This is the moment when all the major events are over and the bride and groom can let their hair down and dance. The Bartons are both doctors and have stressful jobs, so it was awesome to see them let loose on the dance floor.

Elegant White, Blush & Pink Wedding by Adam Nyholt

It was love at first sight when Rikki saw Boris dressed up as a mustard bottle (yes, a mustard bottle) on Halloween at a college frat party. She asked their mutual friend to set them up, but unfortunately it didn’t work out…until the pair connected again during their first week of senior year.

On a perfectly ordinary afternoon, after Rikki returned from a friend’s bridal shower, a surprise proposal awaited her. “Boris and I had planned on going for a walk on the beach when I got home. Once I opened the door of our apartment, I knew something was up. There were flower petals on the ground, flowers from my favorite flower shop all over, candles, and pictures of us from the past four years all over the walls,” recounts Rikki. “I found Boris waiting for me on our balcony on one knee, and he asked for my hand in marriage with the most beautiful ring!”

“Our wedding felt like a dream! So many of our closest friends traveled from all over the U.S. to celebrate with us,” adds Rikki.

The ballroom had a very romantic, elegant feel with white, blush and pink flowers accented with soft candlelight.

Blue & Gold Wedding by MD Turner Photography

One summer Haley decided to sign up for the annual Beta Fraternity River Trip with some girlfriends. The girls were ready for some New Braunfels relaxation and arrived to get on the bus. However, as it always seems with boys’ “careful” planning, there were not enough seats for everyone. Cue Daniel. In true southern gentleman-like fashion, he offered his seat to Haley. He may or may not have had some motive behind this gesture, but it sure paid off. Haley admits she was pretty impressed and started up a conversation with Daniel…a conversation that would continue for the rest of their lives. The two quickly established a favorite date-night spot, George’s Pastaria here in Houston…but little did Haley know that the spot would become even more special on February 15th, 2014. The two were talking and laughing all the way until closing time. Realizing that they were the only two left in the entire restaurant, Haley told Daniel they really should go…but he insisted they stay. Surrounded by nothing but the slowly burning table candles, Daniel got down on one knee. Unable to hold back the happiest of tears, Haley said, “YES!” Now we may or may not be shedding some happy tears, too (we totally are). Haley and Daniel were beyond excited to send out their classic cream and gold invites from Bering’s to all of their friends and loved ones to celebrate this incredible day! The wedding was just a vision—the couple’s chosen colors of Wedgewood blue and shimmering gold were the perfect statement. A huge thank you MD Turner Photography for perfectly capturing the wedding magic. Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness, Haley and Daniel. Xoxo.

Guest Post: Taylor Golden on Getting In Sync with Your Wedding Photographer

This week, super-talented Houston wedding photographer Taylor Golden returns to the blog, with expert tips on what to expect from your photographer on your wedding day, and how to make the most of your photographer relationship, at your wedding…and beyond!

The Wedding Day

For the wedding day, most couples need 8-12 hours of coverage. Of course, every event is different, so be sure to work with your photographer and planner on your timeline. I typically suggest to my couples that they plan to have photography coverage start at about three hours before the ceremony to document the bride and groom getting ready. If the couple is doing a “first look,” then coverage typically starts five hours before the ceremony.

I like to break the day into five sections

  • Bride Prep (1-1.5 hours)
  • Groom Prep (1-1.5 hours)
  • Ceremony (1-1.5 hours, includes family formals)
  • Creatives (bridal party and bride/groom alone- 1.5 hours)
  • Reception (3 hours)

Once the reception starts, you’ll typically need coverage for about 3 hours to document all of the important moments, including the cutting of the cake, dances, bouquet toss, etc. If you’re planning a dramatic exit, you’ll want to hire your photographer to stay through the very end of the wedding, as that image will be a great way to conclude your wedding album.

Beyond the Big Day

After the glitz and glam are over, life does not end…I promise! You’ll be busy picking out pictures for your wedding album and decorating your home, but beyond that, most of you will start a family.

Many photographers offer continuing programs; I call mine “Client for Life,” and I offer couples the opportunity to purchase a one-time package that covers all their sessions, to document their growing family.

If you had a good experience with your photographer, this should be a natural extension as you will already be comfortable working together and know exactly what to expect. This is one of my favorite parts of my job—I get to document the happiest times in people’s lives and become a part of their family as they grow!

Thinking about everything involved in the months leading up to and years after a wedding can be daunting. The key is to hire a professional you trust and whose work you love, and to consider what is most important to you for your pictures. From there you should be able to consult with your photographer on what you want and then enjoy the beautiful journey of life you are on!
