Red, Gold & Black Wedding at Hotel ZaZa by Select Studios

WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Brittany and Ryan ~ November 23, 2013

“I’d never given much thought to the idea of ‘love at first sight’—until the moment it happened to me,” says Brittany. The bride first locked eyes with her hubby-to-be at a country-music festival in Steamboat Springs, Colo.—an instant that, she says, “felt like a movie” and changed her life. Eleven months into their long-distance relationship (he was in Austin, she in Houston), Ryan proposed aboard a gondola at Las Vegas’ Venetian Hotel. The couple’s Catholic ceremony was intimate and spiritual; their red-gold-and-black Hotel ZaZa reception was all about fun. “Since our love story began at a music festival,” Brittany says, dancing ruled the day—the highlight of a celebration “designed to include all of our guests; we wanted them to feel how much we loved them.”

Herend China Wins Bridal Fans at Bering’s

Photos: Robert Torres Photography ~ Herend Dinnerware & Figurines: Bering’s ~ Herend Artist: Marianna Steigervald

We recently had the pleasure of attending the fabulous Herend Artist Event at Bering’s and let’s just say that we are in awe of the impeccable craftsmanship of each collection. Every single piece is handmade AND hand-painted to perfection. Best part? We were able to watch Herend artist Marianna Steigervald in action and ask her a few questions to get the inside scoop on this extraordinary maker of fine–and registry-fabulous–china, available, of course, at Bering’s!

Houston Wedding Blog: What are the origins of Herend?

Marianna Steigervald: There is a lot of history involved with Herend. The first collection was made in the mid-1800s. There was a collection made especially for Queen Victoria, a pattern that is still made today. It is one of our most popular designs sold to date.

HWB: Wow, that is amazing! Which is your personal favorite collection?

MS: My personal favorite is the Miramar collection, which uses an Oriental-inspired pattern. I have always been inspired by Oriental designs because they are so beautiful.

HWB: Which heirloom collections are most popular with brides?

MS: The two most popular collections are ‘Royal Garden’ and ‘Queen Victoria.’ Brides are able to custom design their Herend dinnerware or figurines to their liking.

HWB: What price range can brides expect while shopping from Herend?

MS: Dinnerware sets usually begin from about $300 and can go up to $600 or more depending on the detail of the designs.

HWB: Thanks so much, Marianna!

Winter Is Coming. Ready Your Skin With Primrose Power.

Cold weather, dryer temps and brisk wind can be rough on skin, which can be especially rough on brides to be. Europe’s tiny “everlasting flower” is the key to Lady Primrose’s Necture body crème‘s intensive hydrating properties. This beautifully packaged line, featured recently in our I Do! Bridal Soiree swag bags, is rich with Vitamins C and E, antioxidants and collagen builders that erase dryness and wrinkles, resulting in soft, supple, wedding-ready skin. And the delicate, refreshing scent, infused with jasmine, apple blossom, lily and fresh mint, is a perfect pick-me-up any time of day. Pick up Lady Primrose at beloved Houston retailer Bering’s!

To Do This Week: VIETRI Signing at Bering’s, Friday Oct. 4

Have you ever found yourself charmed by a particular trinket, art piece or houseware while traveling? Susan Gravely and her family did—and turned their infatuation with Amalfi-coast dinnerware into a thriving import business. Since 1983, VIETRI has been bringing Italian tabletop pieces to discerning customers in  Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America, Asia, Australia—and right here in good ol’ Houston, Texas, USA (among other states and cities). This Friday, Gravely herself will be at Bering’s, sharing houseware and entertaining advice, and personally signing VIETRI pieces—which, incidentally, have become a huge favorite on Houston gift registries. Pop into the Westheimer store on your lunch break—event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.—for Prosecco and Italian sweets, and enjoy a gift with your VIETRI purchase.

Pewter and Pink Houston Wedding With International Flair

“On May 13, 2010, my mom said all that she wanted for her birthday was for me to join Jdate.com, a Jewish online dating service. I was very hesitant but how could I turn down her birthday wish? I briefly searched the men available and stumbled upon ‘bluesman84.’ I had just moved back to Houston after going to college in NYC to study music business. With that kind of screen name, I had to talk to him. He was the first and last guy I ever spoke to on the site and we both never logged back on after that.” They never needed to, after all. By that time, Nicole and South African transplant Daniel were well on their way to forever. With her Russian and his South African background, the couple’s wedding was full of cultural touchstones, starting with its theme: “‘L’chaim, Cheers, Na’zdarova’—all three of these words mean ‘to life,’ but are said three different ways,” explains Nicole. Along with homage to their heritages, Nicole and Daniel’s wedding at the Omni Houston Hotel was rich with music. “My husband, who plays guitar, got on stage and sang a song he wrote to me, as well as a one-song reunion with his high-school band.” A treat for the couple, their 230 guests—many having traveled from locales including Israel, South Africa, Germany, London and Australia—the wedding, we can only imagine, was an especially sweet treat for Nicole’s mom, who got her birthday wish, and then some. Congratulations to all, and sincere thanks to Morgan Lynn Photography for the pretty pix.
