St. Germain Wedding Cocktails

St. Germain Wedding Cocktails

Photo: St. Germain

OK, this one goes out to our esteemed publisher Radhika Day, who just happens to be a major St. Germain fan—and with good reason. The classic French elderflower liqueur, made from gently macerating hand-picked blossoms that bloom briefly each spring, is ineffably subtle and delicious. Trying to describe it, according to the famous French artisanal liqueur-maker, is like “asking a hummingbird to describe the flavor of its favorite nectar.” Which we would never do. We’ll simply say that St. Germain is more or less the flavor of romance—which makes it perfect for wedding-day cocktails.

Our favorite is La Rosette, a simple combination of 4 parts Brut Rosé Champagne to ¼ part St. Germain, served in a chilled flute and garnished with a pansy, rose petal or delicate orchid. Parfait! Non?

Aggies-and-Aerospace Engagement Shoot by More Than An Image Photography

Photographer Lacy Dagerath of More Than An Image Photography felt an immediate affinity with bride-to-be Rebecca when the two first spoke to each other. And that mutual liking shows through in Dagerath’s joyful, playful, intimate photos of Rebecca and her groom-to-be David, shot on Texas A&M University’s campus, and at the Royalty Pecan Orchard in Caldwell. As for the couple’s romantic friendship-to-romance story, we’ll let bride-to-be (they’re getting hitched next month!) Rebecca tell it in her own words: “I ‘met’ David the first Sunday of my freshman year at Texas A&M University when I went to mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. I am guilty of being a sucker for musicians and there was this cute boy playing guitar and singing at mass! I thought to myself, ‘Catholic and a musician? That is so my future husband!’ Being a singer myself, I decided that I was going to need to join his choir so I could meet him. I joined the next week and after a couple months, David finally learned my name—ha! In his defense, he is terrible with names and I was really intimidated by him. We had a brief period of flirting but ended up not entering into a romantic relationship and went the friendship route instead (which I am now SO grateful for). Through the next five years at A&M, we sang at mass together every Sunday and he became one of my best friends. Our time at A&M and St. Mary’s together was full of ups and downs, but was the true foundation to our relationship today. I moved to Houston in December of 2010. Once we were a city apart and we didn’t have all of this pre-planned time together, we realized it was time to sit down and talk about what ‘we’ were. After lots of discussion and getting over the fear of ruining a wonderful friendship, we went for it and have never looked back—greatest decision ever!” Check out their deeply personal engagement pix, which include some awesome airplane-hangar shots—David is doing his Master’s Degree in Aerospace, and jokingly suggested that he and Rebecca pose “Top Gun”-style…an idea Rebecca loved. No wonder these two are on the runway to “I do!” Congrats and happiest wishes to the to-be-weds, and big thanks to More Than An Image for the terrific photos.

Houstonian Hotel Wedding With Four-Legged Best Man by Adam Nyholt Photographer

While “the dog did it” is a legendarily convenient excuse for all kinds of stuff, in the case of Andrew’s proposal to Lauren…the dog really did! “Andrew had a tag made that on one side said, ‘I love you,’ and on the other, ‘Will you marry me?’ He hung the tag and the ring on our dog Niko’s collar. I noticed it immediately and though it was some sort of joke. It was perfect! And thankfully it was not a joke,” the bride recounts. For the couple’s 150-guest wedding at The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa, Lauren opted for white with silver accents as her palette, “which I think is very simple yet extremely sophisticated and elegant,” she says. “It was very important to us that everyone there was a person that touched our lives in some way. That included having our dog there as the best man. The whole night was absolutely amazing. Andrew and I never left the dance floor!” We wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness, and send a shout-out to super-talented photographer Adam Nyholt for the beautiful images.
