Modern Black & White Wedding at Hotel ZaZa by Adam Nyholt

This week, as all of us take shelter from the unprecedented deluge of Hurricane Harvey, and take stock of everything that is dear and precious to us, we will be sharing some of our favorite weddings of the last few years. If you need an escape, a moment of peace, a reminder of the importance of family, friends and, above all, love, please settle in, snuggle down and join us. And once the storm clouds clear, and the water recedes, let us know what we can do to help you. We are all in this together. #BeStrongHouston #LoveConquersAll

Houston bride Rozlind wanted her wedding to be a fabulous party that still had a warm, inviting feeling. From the black and white decor, to the all-white flowers, and romantic candlelit ballroom at Hotel ZaZa, Rozlind and Matthew’s wedding was the definition of modern glam. If you think all of this sounds glamorous, just wait till you see Rozlind’s gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown and Nicholas Kirkwood peep-toe lace heels! Thanks, Adam Nyholt, for the beautiful photos and congrats to the newlyweds!

Blush & Gold Wedding at Chateau Polonez by Ama Photography & Cinema

This week, as all of us take shelter from the unprecedented deluge of Hurricane Harvey, and take stock of everything that is dear and precious to us, we will be sharing some of our favorite weddings of the last few years. Fatima and Matthew really are the ultimate sweethearts. Their journey began in elementary school—fourth grade to be exact. Although their paths separated for a short time while they attended different high schools, they reconnected during junior year and that’s where it all finally began! Fatima recalls “what began as ‘young high-school love’ developed into a relationship filled with deep affection, trials and tribulations that we were able to surpass, trust, and the development of something deeper that is unexplainable with simple words.” *sniff sniff* Aargh, we told ourselves we weren’t gonna cry…but just wait for it, this proposal will definitely seal the deal on those tears. Matthew chose a day where Fatima was off work and he knew she would be home. Around 10:30 a.m., Fatima received a package with “Get Ready My Love” written on the outside in script…and inside was a perfect outfit and a note instructing her to be ready by noon. Matthew’s parents picked up Fatima and brought her to Mary Jo Peckam Park, which is a very special place to the couple. It was where Matthew gave Fatima a promise ring on their first anniversary. Sniff sniff again. Ahead of her was an anxiously-waiting boy holding flowers, and a trail of photos and ornaments hanging from the trees. As they stood under photos of memories from the many years they had spent together, Matthew got down on one knee and finally asked Fatima to marry him! Yep, here come the tears. After a day together, the two enjoyed a dinner with both of their families. Fatima and Matthew’s wedding was truly picturesque, complete with a light and fresh color palette of blush, ivory, and gold hues. They vowed their love for one another in a formal Catholic ceremony, and celebrated afterwards with a dreamy reception at Chateau Polonez. Fatima and Matthew said, “Our main focus was not only to celebrate our love, but to enjoy this celebration with our family and friends.” Fatima was a stunning bride in a lace trumpet-style gown designed by Allure Bridals from Parvani Vida Bridal and Formal—where she also found her accessories, bridal party dresses and gown preservation! Now, that’s just a one-stop-shop of perfection. The entire event was documented by Ama Photography & Cinema—and let’s be honest, these photos are just gorgeous. Many congrats to the beautiful couple!

Guest Post: Kim Philippi on 7 Surefire Tips to Stay Sane During Wedding Planning

Studios-At-Fischer-Canyon-Lake-TX-Wedding-Photography-Bridal-Party-Photo-169

You’re engaged…Congratulations!! As a recent newlywed, I share in your joy of marriage and… your potential miseries surrounding planning a wedding! What’s that, you say? Planning a wedding might not be 100% fun? For those superhumans out there who relish every second of planning your wedding, I commend you (and also would like some of whatever you’re drinking). For the rest of us mere Homo sapiens, I have compiled a list of surefire ways to stay sane while planning for the biggest day of your life, based on my own–completely biased–experience: Scroll down for the scoop!

Studios-At-Fischer-Canyon-Lake-TX-Wedding-Photography-Bride-Groom-Photo-119

1. Hire a wedding coordinator. I know, if you’re anything like me, you’re thinking, “I love planning and am so organized! Why would I waste money on this?” My venue required that I hire a day-of coordinator, and it ended up being my saving grace. My rockstar coordinator Michelle thought of tiny details I never would have thought of, allowed my family members to enjoy the day and not have to coordinate, and ran everything so seamlessly that if anything had gone wrong, I certainly had no idea (until our sendoff when the sparklers prematurely had burned out, which we actually found hilarious/made for fun pictures of cell phones lighting our path). If I could do it all over, I would have hired a full-time coordinator!

2. A friend gave me this piece of advice, which was such a stress/money-saver: “Choose three things you care the most about to spend money on, and see where you can save on everything else.” And I believe it’s possible to do this within any budget. You love flowers? Don’t skimp on those. Dream of a fabulous dress? Dream big! For us, our priorities were venue, booze, and photographer. We worked to save on everything else (we booked our flowers through a close family friend, and I got my dress second-hand), then towards the end when we found we had some wiggle room in our budget, we were able to add some fun extra things like a reasonably priced photo booth and cigars.

3. Have a destination wedding where everything is planned out for you ahead of time and you don’t have to worry about anything. You think I’m kidding…I’m not kidding.

4. If you’re not taking suggestion #3 above, give yourself time to plan. I had a seven-month engagement, which isn’t exactly short, but when planning a Hill Country wedding for 140 guests, having a few more months to plan would’ve been nice. Because we had to bring in most of our own vendors (which we wanted, to have our own personal touch), I felt like I had to make a decision every day. By the end, I didn’t want to make another decision ever again EVER.

5. Make time for wine and a close friend at least once a month week day (this is a safe space, y’all).

6. Lean on your hubby/wifey-to-be for support. In the midst of wedding planning, my then-fiancé and I decided to build a house because WHY NOT?! (protip: Don’t do this.) After several (hundred) mortgage and floorplan emails had been exchanged, I–shaking, on the brink of hysteria, wine bottle clutched in hand–calmly asked my fiancé if he’d handle all house stuff until after the wedding. He gladly did so without complaint. Hey, what’s a life partner for?

7. Take a deep breath, and remember what this is all about: you and your partner making a vow to love and support each other for the rest of your lives. And that’s the easiest part about all of this.

5 Super-Stylish “Something Blue” Picks for Fashionable Brides

OK y’all, we’ll leave the “something old” and “something borrowed” up to you (and your mom, grandma, favorite auntie, BFFs, etc..). But for something new and beautifully, bridally blue, we’ve hand-selected five “something blue” bridal finds we’re pretty sure you’ll find it hard not to fall in love with!

La Perla- Macrame Macrame Tale Bodysuit: La Perla

It’s not often that we come across a piece of lingerie that is as exquisite as it is supportive, but La Perla’s Macrame Tale Bodysuit happens to be just such a piece. Form-fitting, sensual, feminine and bolstered by delicate padding and ultra-comfortable underwire, this blue-if-it’s-a-bride bodysuit slips perfectly underneath (non-strapless) wedding dresses…and is equally well suited to wedding-night canoodling, or a romantic honeymoon romp. Oh la la!

blue-earrings-jewelry-Neiman Kiki McDonough Detachable Drop Earrings: Neiman Marcus

Classic in cut, but modern in style, Kiki McDonough’s gold-and-blue-topaz drop earrings get an extra dash of sparkle from delicate inlaid diamonds–just one of the reasons they’re preternaturally popular with McDonough’s well-heeled London clientele AND a favorite of brides who want their “something blue” to be something they’ll pass on to future generations.

Blue Topaz- bloomindales Blue Topaz Y Necklace: Bloomingdale’s

If you’re planning on wearing a super-haute plunging-neckline bridal gown, you’ll want to check out Bloomingdale’s exclusive blue-topaz drop Y-chain necklace. We’re crazy about this piece’s simple sophistication and briolette-pendant dazzle. And we’re equally excited about repurposing this Y-chain for cocktail parties, date nights and fun-in-the-sun festivities long after the last post-reception sparkler has sputtered!

Maria-Badgley Mischka Maria Embellished Evening Shoe: Badgley Mischka

A gorgeously embellished, brilliantly sparkling, sleek satin, subtle blue Badgley-Mischka bridal pump is all any bride needs to complement just about any bridal gown silhouette and get her “something blue” squared away, all at once, in flawless style.

Kendra-nail polish Turquoise Nail Lacquer: Kendra Scott

Oh, Kendra…your drop earrings make our lobes yearn for them, your pendants give us palpitations on the regular, and now, NOW, your gem-inspired nail lacquers (turquoise, most especially) are giving us the bridal blues in the best way ever. Thank you!! And thank YOU, Houston brides, who inspire every single one of our bridal beauty & style discoveries : ))

Romantic Outdoor Ceremony & Indoor Reception at Waters Edge Lakefront Venue

If you’re a Houston Wedding Blog regular, y’all know how much we love it when a GROOM shares his wedding us…and Timothy is just such a groom! He tells us that he met his beloved Oralia at Tomball High School back in 2009, where, “I used to sell her candy and mix tapes in the hallway.” Awww… After attending college together, and falling head over heels in love, Timothy decided to pop the question with a down-on-one-knee December proposal in a “winter wonderland” scene he created, with accompaniment from John Legend’s “All of Me” playing in the background (if you’re not in love with this groom yet, you may want to check your romance meter to make sure it’s operating properly). For their midsummer nuptials, the pair picked Waters Edge, one of our absolute favorite waterfront venues, where they said their vows beside sparkling blue water, beneath a glittering chandelier, framed by billowing white chiffon. Post-vow festivities took the newlyweds and their nearest and dearest indoors, for a high-energy party, where live music, gourmet comfort food and a “draped” wedding cake from Susie’s Cakes & Confections ensure that a fabulous time was had by all. Thank you, Timothy, for sharing your love for Oralia with us and our readers!
