1.) Boho Braid. French, Dutch, fishtail or a combo of techniques…whichever you choose for your wedding-day look, braided bridal hairstyles are so on trend. Natural hair not quite long enough to rock braided locks for your big day? Azur Salon at West Ave has the solution for that! Natural or…helped out a bit…wear your long bridal braid swept to the side, and pair it with a textured drop or modern ear-crawler for maximum cool.

2. Messy Updo. Part classic chignon, part sexy tousle, the slightly undone updo is a lovely bridal hairstyle choice for medium to long locks. Because this style already has a lot of texture and movement, you don’t want to add more with super-elaborate chandelier earrings or oversize stones. Instead, opt for an elegant piece of hair jewelry, and dress your lobes with delicate pearl-and-diamond drops or studs.

3. Half Up, Half Down. It’s a style compromise…in the most beautiful way! The half-updo takes your hair out of your face, but also allows for flow and movement. It’s both demure and dramatic, and it’s the perfect bridal hairstyle to frame your pretty face, and showcase a larger, sophisticated bridal earring style.

1. Rustic Elegance: For her California wedding to William Tell, fashion and lifestyle guru Lauren Conrad rocked long, loose locks and a flowing custom dress from Mark Badgley and James Mischka, while her bridesmaids wore sweet and comfy styles from her very own dress line, Paper Crown . The couple wed in a nondenominational ceremony where they shared vows they’d written themselves, natch. At their California-cool reception, bare wood tables got a bit of classic elegance from hemstitched runners, accented with tousled, low centerpieces and long white taper candles.

2. Lush & Lavish: “Modern Family” bombshell Sofia Vergara and “Magic Mike” hottie Joe Manganiello exchanged vows at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla. The reception was held in the hotel’s ornate Venetian ballroom, where a canopy of creamy-hued floral garlands set a glamorous, ultra-romantic tone. At their reception, yellow linens and lush white roses topped dining tables, and the couple shared a first dance to Frank Sinatra’s 1964 classic, “The Way You Look Tonight.”

3. Timeless & Classic: Duchess Kate’s sis Pippa Middleton didn’t try to outdo the pomp and circumstance of her sibling’s royal affair, when she married beau James Matthews. Instead, she opted for a classic close-to-home wedding, donning a high-neck lace Giles Deacon dress (designed to create the impression of being seamless), and ivory satin Manolos, to say her vows in a historic parish. Post-ceremony festivities took place in a Belgian glass palace set up on the grounds of the Middleton family home, and centered on a timeless menu featuring caviar, Champagne and lobster, along with a projection show highlighting milestones of the couple’s love story. Awww…

4.) Culturally Traditional: She’s been a “Supergirl.” She’s a “Designated Survivor.” And on Oct. 15 of last year, Italia Ricci took on one more starring role: bride. For her traditional Italian wedding to fellow actor Robbie Amell, Ricci wore a princess-worthy James Clifford ballgown, and the couple spoke traditional vows in a cathedral ceremony. For their lively reception, the couple, threw in plenty of current faves, such as a super-fun signature cocktail (made with vodka, basil and lemon), a decadent doughnut wall, and beloved wedding dance tunes including “YMCA,” the “Macarena,” and, yes, the “Chicken Dance.”

7 Ways Neutrals Can Anchor Your Wedding Tablescape

Basic beige? Not even. Choose linens, rentals and tenting in neutral hues to tie your flowers, table settings, and decor together. Ask your wedding planner and florist for tips, and take inspiration from these neutral wedding palette “tricks!”

1. A pattern in a neutral color acts almost as a solid.

6. A light-hued, sheer runner paired with a natural surface acts as a texture rather than a color, creating layers of interest.

7. White, as a textured table linen or used sparingly on napkins or chair sashes, lends a clean, modern finish.

Seasonal Weddings Bouquets for Spring, Summer, Winter & Fall

Having a seasonal wedding bouquet isn’t just about syncing your flower theme with your wedding month. Choosing in-season blooms for your bridal bouquet also helps ensure that the flowers you hold in your hand as you walk down the aisle to “I do” are at peak freshness and fullness. Choosing seasonal flowers for your bouquet can also save you money, since these blooms will be available in abundance, and likely will not need to be flown in from verrrrry far away at a verrrrry high cost. To get started dreaming up your seasonal flower arrangement, think about the month you’ll wed, and the location (you wouldn’t want wildflowers in a lavish ballroom, or cascading tendrils on a blustery beachfront, for example), use this here post for inspiration and advice, and talk to your Houston wedding florist about bringing your own interpretation to your seasonal bridal bouquet.

Quite possibly the single most beloved bridal flower is the delicate, fluttery, ultra-feminine peony. Available in shades ranging from snowy white to vibrant coral to multiple shades of pink, peonies have a notoriously short season, generally reaching peak bloom in April and May, so if spring is your wedding season, take advantage of this fabulous flower!

Other popular spring flowers:

  • Delphinium
  • Pansies
  • Lisianthus
  • Tulips
  • Sweet Peas

Other popular summer flowers:

  • Chrysanthemum
  • Dahlia
  • Stock
  • Sunflower

English roses, yellow coxcomb and purple wax flowers make up this colorful and feminine fall bridal bouquet. But you can choose from a bounty of fall-season flowers for your own autumnal arrangement! If your wedding falls during the months of September, October or November, pay homage to Houston’s shift from REALLY HOT to NOT AS HOT with flowers in shades of burnt orange, deep maroon, yellow and green, with touches of blush and pink.

Other popular fall flowers:

  • Gerbera Daisy
  • Calla Lily
  • Marigold
  • Aster

If winter is your wedding season, congratulations! (Well, congratulations no matter WHAT season you’re set to wed in…this is the Houston Wedding Blog, after all : ) What we mean is, considering that this here is Houston, having your wedding during the winter months means treating visiting guests to one of the city’s most delightful times of year, when temps drop, twinkle lights come out, and a sense of fun and festivity fills the air. For winter wedding bouquets, we can’t say enough good things about roses, the eternal flower of love, and the most reliable, and beautiful, year-round bloomer. Want to really go all out with your seasonal style? Accent your rose bouquet with hypericum berries, pine sprigs and/or cones, and holly leaves. For a winter wedding bouquet that’s as snow white as the stuff that falls from the sky further north, opt for slender, elegant paper whites (a type of winter narcissus), or fragrant stephanotis. Happy floral designing, darlings!

Intimate Restaurant Wedding by Civic Photos

It’s a story as old as time: Bright-eyed, ambitious young intern meets seasoned company full-timer; water-cooler chat turns flirtatious; love ensues… (OK, we don’t really know about the water cooler part, but you get the picture!). Following a cozy proposal at home, over a home-cooked meal and wine, sweethearts Paola and Aaron made food and wine the center of their focus once again, with an elegant wedding for 35 guests, featuring an intimate church ceremony followed by a six-course French dinner at a favorite Houston restaurant. “Our wedding was meant to be a classic theme that would be beautiful years from now,” the bride tells us, and we have to say, “Yup, looks like you hit the mark perfectly!” We wish the newlyweds a lifetime of happiness, and invite YOU to enjoy their celebration, through these lovely pix, including gorgeous portraits at the historic Julia Ideson Library, from Civic Photos!
