Are they ALL the fall 2013 wedding gowns we fell in love with, following this past weekend’s unveilings at New York Bridal Market? ’Course not! That would take way more than one lil’ ol’ blog post. But, from Lazaro’s lacy overlay to Badgley Mischka’s vintage for the modern age, to Amsale’s classic elegance to Claire Pettibone’s exquisite back detail (and more!), these are just some of the fall 2013 bridal styles that simply knocked us out. We’re over the moon at having the chance to share with you the awesome engagement session of Houston bridal expert Lisa Toenjes of Brickhouse Bridal!! Archetype Studio shot the delightful Lisa and her great groom-to-be Kevin at the truly remarkable Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, and we are in LOVE with the results. Colorful, playful, and just plain full of life and love, these are the kind of engagement photos a gal can treasure FOREVER. Big, huge congrats, Lisa and Kevin, who’ll make it official on Oct. 13!

Who says bridal shows have to be…demure? Not Chateau Polonez, that’s for sure! This Friday’s “Unzipped” cocktail party and fashion show invites brides and their besties (grooms, too, if they promise to behave), to sip, nibble and enjoy, as hip wedding wear shares the stage with hot cocktail frocks, lingerie and swimwear. Plenty of vendors on hand, too. Oh, and did we mention the pole dancing demo? Yes, it’s that kind of party. Admission is 21 and older. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Go!

It’s no secret how much we here at HWB love Hill Country weddings—like Jana & Buddy’s, Lauren & Zach’s, Juli & Kyle’s…and on and on. But did you know what a great resource Hill Country is for other wonderful wedding stuff, besides scenic venues?
Along with the allure of Austin, the area’s international influences and the recent boom in winemaking have made it a mecca for gourmands, gastronomes and folks who just plain crave true Texas flavor. Fortunately for us, this renowned region is right in our backyard. We highly recommend scouting Hill Country for welcome-basket goodies, dessert-table treats and take-home favors that will give your wedding guests a taste of Texas that is as sweet to look upon as it is delicious to devour. Our faves include Austin’s ridiculously adorablicious (yeah, we made it up) Tiny Pies and favor-sensation Gracious Bridal (they do edibles as well as non–with packaging to die for). ‘Course for down-home delish, nothing beats Fredericksburg’s Rustlin’ Robs–who, after all, can resist zippy Black-Eyed Pea Relish or perfect Pecan Pie Filling-in-a-Jar? Take to the hills, Houston bride!
The day after he met Jennifer at an Armadillo Palace show in 2005, Mitchell told his mom, “I met my future wife last night.” And dang if he wasn’t RIGHT. Six years to the day they started dating, the pair tied the knot, with a ceremony at Christ Church Cathedral followed by a high-energy, high-style reception at the ultra-cool Majestic Metro—the groom’s venue choice, incidentally, which he picked immediately upon spotting it in the pages of Weddings in Houston (if you heard the “toot-toot,” that was our own horn, btw).
There are so many things we love about this wedding, but let’s just start with bride Jennifer, who left those long, flowing locks down for her big day…so pretty! Especially with her Kenneth Pool gown from Mia Bridal Couture and delectable blue Manolo Blahnik shoes, dontcha think? We’ve also saved a swoon or two for those gorgeous purple-pink-and-peacock-feather florals by Darryl & Co., and that to-die-for dessert table—a perfect accompaniment to the couple’s Who Made the Cake cake. “I purchased the cake stands from a company called Tiers of Joy,” Jennifer told us. “I wanted that romantic look, but with lots of bling, so when I saw these I HAD to buy them!!” Yes, you did, Jennifer.
And if you’re thinking that adorable flower girl’s orchid purse looks familiar, you’re right.
Big thanks to photographer Chris Wineinger for his great pics of this fabulous, fun-filled wedding. As for Mitchell, who apparently still has Jennifer’s number in his phone under “future wife,” you may want to edit that contact, mister. Or not. It is pretty darn cute. Congrats, you two, and happiest wishes to you!
