She loves his leather jacket, and that he’s always up for an adventure. He loves her bubbly personality, and having breakfast with her on Saturdays at Barnaby’s. And they both love a good party. It was in this spirit that Leslie and Danny gathered 185 friends and family members at Houston venue The Astorian to celebrate their union, a culmination of the love story that began when the two first met working as engineers in 2012. With the expert planning and design assistance of acclaimed Houston wedding firm Events De Luxe, the couple created a winter wedding that beautifully reflected their likes, and their love: “Our wedding was absolutely perfect for us,” the bride says. Northgate Country Club Winter Wedding
“We didn’t meet by locking eyes across a crowded bar, or bump into each other at a crowded coffee shop like you see in the movies, or even get introduced by mutual friends,” says Houston bride Katherine. “Our love story started with a simple swish of the finger… yes, we met on Tinder in Austin, Texas!”
Winery Inspired Austin Wedding By Jessica Frey Photography
Sarah was a senior in high school when she befriended Derek, then a freshman at UT Austin, and her brother’s best friend. “We were friends for 10 years before we started dating,” she says. Which, incidentally, didn’t happen until Derek asked Sarah’s brother for permission to take her out on their first date. Not too long after that, “My best friend became the love of my life,” she says.
Modern Elegant Spring Wedding At The Astorian
Though they met many years ago through mutual friends, back then, “The timing just wasn’t right,” says Kevin’s future bride, Julie.
“I was still in school, and long distance relationships can be difficult, so we remained friends for a couple years, hanging out with friends when I would come back to Houston.” Then one fateful day, Kevin asked Julie out on their first real date. “I thought, ‘He is so handsome, and I already know he is such a wonderful guy,’ so I said, ‘Yes.'” Fast-forward to a surprise midweek vacation to Galveston, which found the couple enjoying cocktails at the romantic rooftop bar of The Tremont House. I thought, “‘Oh my gosh, is he going to propose??'” Julie recounts. “But it didn’t happen.” The next morning, as the couple was leaving their hotel, “We walked down to the front of the hotel overlooking the beach…and right up to an arrangement with a bunch of photos of us, flowers, and a sign that read, ‘Marry me.’ I was in shock! I had no idea what was happening at first, he had caught me so off guard.” While planning their wedding, both Julie and Kevin, along with the rest of the city of Houston, were caught off guard by a much less pleasant surprise: Hurricane Harvey. Joyful Hindu-Muslim Wedding By Raofactor At ZaZa
Anita and Shivan’s exuberant Hindu-Muslim wedding caught our attention the moment we saw it.
The couple, who were introduced to one another by mutual friends in 2013, might not have become a couple at all, had it not been for Anita’s initiative: “The first time we met, we talked, but not much happened. The second time all of the friends got together for dinner and I asked him out on a date,” Anita says. “He politely accepted…and it was all history from there!” A big part of that history was Shivan’s spring 2017 proposal at Hermann Park. As Anita explains, “It is one of my favorite places in the city. Shivan invited my family and friends, because he remembered that I once told him I would want all my loved ones to be there for the moment. He set up the old oak trees with lights, flowers, and pictures of us from dates we had been on, and proposed under a tree. We went from there to brunch, to celebrate with everyone. It was the most perfect proposal.” And while she notes that, “Our biggest hurdle was that my family is all Muslim and Shivan’s family is all Hindu,” she says that, ultimately, “both families accepted each other and we did ceremonies for both religions. It was beautiful to see two different religions coming together and accepting each other as family.” Join us on a colorful, lively, joy-filled journey through this lovely couple’s multi-day celebration, which included fabulous floral design from Raofactor, at a 350-guest bash held at glamorous Hotel ZaZa Museum District.
