Romantic Indoor-Outdoor Engagement Shoot from Weddings by Alefiya

For their combination bridal-engagement shoot, Emmie and Elliott made the most of Houston locations with a special significance to their lives. Inside groom Elliott’s family home in River Oaks, the couple engaged in a dress rehearsal for the big day (they’ll soon wed in Napa Valley, Calif.), gorgeously captured by Alefiya Akbarally of Weddings by Alefiya. Among our favorite images are those shot at the couple’s local movie house, and at the café nearby where they like to grab a bite to eat after catching a flick. Emmie’s red lace dress and statement necklace? Now THAT’S how you rock a photo shoot, ladies! Thank you, Emmie and Elliott, for sharing your shoot with us. And kudos to Akbarally for the delicious pix!

Fairytale Castle Wedding by The Silhouette Studio

“Our wedding truly was a fairytale,” says bride April, who married college sweetheart Kery at The Castle on the Lake in Jacksonville this fall. “I will never forget the look on Kery’s face when he saw me for the first time, walking down the aisle toward him—and I will never forget how handsome he looked in his uniform. Smiling at each other during those first few, nerve-wracking moments is my favorite memory of the day.” For her momentous occasion, April, soon to graduate with a Master’s Degree in English, wore a Maggie Sottero gown from Brickhouse Bridal, while Kery, who joined the United States Army in 2010, looked dashing in his crisp service uniform. We love the glorious floral arrangements from La Tee Da Florist in Tyler, and the mix of small vintage touches (wrought-iron vases, burnt-edge guestbook) and big dramatic gestures (fireworks, silver Rolls) that make this wedding such a feast for the eyes—and, we’re sure, made it such a thrill for the 175 guests who took part. One last word of advice from April: “Find a photographer with whom you have chemistry.” Calling Sarah Williams of The Silhouette Studio a “photographer and artiste extraordinaire” (we couldn’t agree more), April says, “Thanks to her, we will forever have unforgettable visual images of our wedding day: the joy and love, the dancing and laughter, and every moment in between.” We wish April and Kery all the very best, and we welcome The Silhouette Studio to the Houston Wedding Blog, and to Weddings in Houston magazine!

Classic Pink & White Country Club Wedding with Art Deco Inspiration

Since her grandparents wed, everyone in Claudia’s family has married at her family’s church—St. Anne Catholic Church—and celebrated their nuptials at River Oaks Country Club. And when it came time for Claudia to be joined in blessed union with her beloved Erik, the bride carried on the tradition in gracious and gorgeous style, with help from planner Jo Ann Schwartz Woodward of Schwartz & Woodward. Carrying a bouquet accented with a green crystal rosary that had been blessed by Pope John Paul II—a gift from the groom—as well as an heirloom Art Deco brooch and an antique monogrammed handkerchief, Claudia said, “I do,” to Erik, and he to his bride, in the presence of more than 400 family members and friends. A mix of light-pink damask and sheer-satin-stripe soft-white tablecloths from Elegant Beginnings set a romantic, feminine tone for the reception, with its elegant, Art Deco decor scheme. Claudia’s Chanel-inspired Who Made The Cake cake, featuring a pale-pink bow, pearl accents and an Art Deco brooch? Perhaps one of our favorites, ever! We are so happy for this lovely, loving Houston couple, and so thankful to photographer Tomas Ramos for his wonderful photos of this opulent, elegant wedding.

Southwestern Rustic-Chic Wedding at The Parador by Sarah McKenzie Photography

For their October wedding at The Parador, Christina and Paul created a theme based on where they came from and where they’d been. In the bride’s words, “Our wedding was inspired by our travels, and each of our cultures and favorite destinations was reflected throughout some part of our day.” Set on the gorgeous grounds of The Parador, a circa-1928 Texas Historical Landmark that blends Mediterranean style with Byzantine detail, the couple’s wedding featured soft-hued succulents (even atop the lovely white wedding cake—perfect!), tables named for the couple’s many travel destinations, and culinary delights including green-chile risotto in honor of Paul’s home state of New Mexico. The bride’s delicate mantilla veil, meanwhile, spoke to her Mexican heritage. Despite the fact that both Christina and Paul are deaf, the pair made music a major part of their celebration, starting with a string-quartet processional of the Beatles’ “In My Life.” For their reception entrance, Christina and Paul chose the Beach Boys’ “Wouldn’t It Be Nice,” “to honor my late father and his favorite group,” the bride says. We are hopelessly in love with Sarah McKenzie’s timeless photos of this truly wonderful wedding. Congratulations, Christina and Paul, and thank you so much for sharing your special day!

Rustic, Sentimental Family-Farm Engagement Shoot by Simply Love Photography

Bride Kristen planned her engagement shoot herself—and it shows. She knew she wanted a rustic, homey feel that would stand the test of time and bring her and hubby Josh joy whenever they looked at their photos. Well, what better place to make timeless memories than a 100-acre family farm on the outskirts of Houston that has been in her family for decades? We should add that this lovely spread of land also happens to be the very site where Kristen and Josh will build their family home once they are married. Beautiful. Kayla of Simply Love Photography tells us that Kristen put as much thought into the e-session’s props, as its location: “One main item was an old wooden window frame that was hand-painted with floral designs. This window was in her room when she was a child and she has held onto it for year and years. She added their wedding date in wooden numbers to the window to have as a keepsake for their home once they are married.” Yes, that is a tear that just welled up in your eye, honey. Ready for the full sob? Here’s what else Kayla revealed to us: “Josh was involved in a very tragic accident in 2006 where his truck was completely totaled. His legs were severely crushed when the truck hit a tree, and he was not supposed to be able to walk again. After much dedication and rehabilitation he is almost fully recovered today and has the opportunity to start a new beginning with the love of his life”—Southern belle Kristen, who stole his tough cowboy heart. We wish this lovely, loving, lovable couple a full life of happiness. Thanks so much to you both, and to Simply Love, for sharing your photos and your remarkable story with us.
