Egyptian-American Texas Wedding at The Gallery

A wedding is a celebration not just of one couple’s forever love, but, in so many cases, of two individuals’ unique backgrounds and cultures. Marlo and Sammy’s splendid wedding at The Gallery is a perfect example. The couple, who met at a birthday party on a boat in Austin and maintained a long-distance relationship for three years (no easy feat!) brought 250 people together for their nuptials, which paid homage to Sammy’s Egyptian roots and Marlo’s Texan ones in equal measures. In the bride’s own words: “Our wedding was bright and colorful. We had 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen, with one being our English bulldog Sumo. He, of course, walked down in a tux too! After the ceremony, we had a traditional Egyptian zaffa and belly dancer provide entertainment to our guest. We also had delicious Mediterranean food and Texas-style BBQ for our guests. Our first dace was to a country song, but our DJ incorporated Egyptian dance music in with some of our favorite songs. We ended the night with the bridesmaids and bride wearing belly-dancer belts and had a sparkler send off. It couldn’t have been more perfect for us.” Perfect, indeed. Congratulations to the happy couple, and a thank-you to C. Baron Photography for the lovely pix!

Enchanting Austin Engagement and Wedding by High Dot Studios, Part II

Vintage-loving, fun-loving, each-other-loving Houstonians Shatara and Bilal chose the lovely Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria as the location for their wedding. And we are SO glad they did. Just look at these photos by High Dot Studios, which show off the venue’s dreamy green grounds and the wedding’s enchanting, butterflies-and-roses ambiance to magnificent effect. Says beautiful bride Shatara—shown here in her exquisite Vera Wang wedding gown—“Family and friends from as far away as Virginia joined us in our celebration. Mostly outdoors, our wedding took everyone by surprise with our hip-hop first-dance mix. Serving foods like jerk chicken and hummus, and drinks like ginger beer, made our wedding a one-of-a-kind. We capped off the night with a 1959 Jaguar to whisk us away. I’ll always cherish how beautiful our wedding was and hope others will appreciate its beauty.” If by “others” you mean us here at HWB, and all our eager readers, yes, Shatara, we most certainly do!

As for you, dear readers, if you haven’t yet checked out Shatara and Bilal’s engagement session, do yourselves a favor…and DO!

Post Hurricane New York Wedding by Steve Lee Weddings

“Our wedding day can be compared to a clear sky, a rainbow and a bright sun that can be seen after a perfect storm,” says bride Akina. And that’s not just a metaphor. A week before her New York wedding to John (he’s from Houston but was living in Yokohama, Japan, at the time; she’s Japanese and was living in NYC), Hurricane Sandy devastated the city, putting the couple’s wedding, along with countless people’s lives, livelihoods and well-being, in very serious jeopardy. Yet somehow the couple’s determined out-of-town guests managed to get to the city safely and on time to enjoy the magnificently chic and warmly multicultural celebration of Akina and John’s true love. To document their perfect day, the pair brought top Houston photographer Steve Lee of Steve Lee Weddings/Khloe Madison to New York, where he captured this beautiful wedding in all its splendor—the pops of pink, the whimsical butterflies, the myriad Yoruban (the groom is a first-generation Nigerian-American) and Japanese elements that went into the couple’s festivities. We get tingles of joy—and, truth be told, a couple of tears in our eyes—looking at Lee’s photos of this magical day. No storm could keep these two apart, and, we are certain, no storm ever shall. Congratulations to the newlyweds!
