WEDDINGS IN HOUSTON FALL 2014 | REAL WEDDING FEATURE

Lisa and Donald ~ January 19, 2014

While their Match.com introduction might not be the essence of tradition, Don’s request to Lisa’s dad for permission to marry his daughter certainly was. “After getting my dad’s blessing, he dropped to one knee and I said, ‘Yes!’” recalls the bride—who also happens to be director of catering and conferences for one of Houston’s most revered wedding venues: The Houstonian Hotel, Club & Spa. Naturally, the couple wed at Lisa’s longtime place of employment, aided in planning by the hotel’s social catering manager, Jim Gray. Highlights of the joyful occasion included a ceremony filled with poignant readings by the couple’s many family members. Avid foodies both, Don and Lisa incorporated wine pairings into their lavish menu, and treated guests to exquisite desserts, almond-and-raspberry wedding cake, and postprandial cigars. “My favorite part of the night was singing and dancing with my niece and goddaughter Caroline to—yes—‘Sweet Caroline,’ by Neil Diamond,” Lisa recalls happily. “The entire room joined in!”

Rustic-Chic Spring Wedding at Old Glory Ranch

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014

Whitney and Zak’s picture-perfect spring wedding at Old Glory Ranch was the very picture of elegant simplicity. “Old Glory Ranch is so beautiful that it doesn’t need a lot of decorations” says bride Whitney. “The elegant rustic setting of the outdoor patio along with the beautiful spring creations and centerpieces were all that were needed to evoke the perfect atmosphere.” She adds, “Our wedding was all about spring, family and being in love. I have always been a bit of a free spirit. I love being by the water, being outdoors, and I love flowers of any and every kind.” Wimberley’s Old Glory Ranch offered all of these elements, to which Whitney added vintage family wedding photos and filled the celebration with her favorite music. We hope you enjoy these beautiful photos of Whitney & Zak’s wedding as much as we did. Best wishes to the newlyweds!

Classic Ivory, Merlot and Blush Wedding by Sarah Ainsworth Photography

Wednesday, April 30th, 2014

From its serene gold-accented palette, to its seasonal menu of roasted corn chowder and beef tenderloin with wild-mushroom-and-onion risotto, to its crystal chandeliers and soft candlelight, Hayley and Jeffrey’s fall wedding is pretty much a perfect example of how to do fall elegance fabulously. The couple, who met on a blind date (!!)—which led to a second date the very next day—wanted their marriage celebration to be not just full of love, but utterly timeless. We think they did both, beautifully. And we’ve got the gorgeous photos by super-talented Houston photographer Sarah Ainsworth to prove it. Congratulations, Hayley & Jeffrey!

HWB Hearts: Intriguing Ideas for Hand-Tied Bouquets

Wednesday, June 6th, 2012

Satin ribbon and pearl pins are a classic choice for a hand-tied wedding bouquet. But there’s no rule that says they’re required wrapping for wedding bouquet stems. We’re huge fans of using interestingly textured, unusually patterned and/or heirloom fabrics and other materials to bind bridal bouquets. Some of our favorite ribbon alternatives include lace (especially black), raffia, twine, silk handkerchiefs, crocheted doilies, bear grass, leather and suede. Also alluring: mixing a simple or rough-hewn wrap material with a contrastingly delicate or ornamental accent, or vice versa. For instance, fine lace accented with wood buttons, or twine encircled with pearl rosary beads. And, of course, there’s nothing more meaningful than a bouquet wrapped with a bit of lace from the hem of your grandmother’s wedding gown, or adorned with your great-aunt’s heirloom locket.

Find more hand-tied bouquet inspiration, and the week’s wedding news, events & tips, in today’s week’s Wednesday Wedding Buzz!
