Nominate Houston Wedding Blog @ AisleDash.com’s Wedding Blog Awards!

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

If you’re reading this post, you’re familiar with the Houston Wedding Blog. And if you’re familiar with the HWB, then you know that we are one of the best wedding blogs around. And if you know that we’re such a fabulous wedding blog, don’t you want the world to know that you know so that they know too?

Nominate us for AisleDash.com’s Wedding Blog Awards and at least a good chunk of the world WILL. Judges include celebrity lifestyle guru Colin Cowie and renowned wedding planner and “eventiste” Marcy Blum (who just happens to be profiled in the July issue of Weddings in Houston, on newsstands now!), so the stakes are pretty high. But we’ve got confidence that our signature Houston blend of tradition, cosmopolitan sophistication, international flair and down-home hospitality is a winner in the making.

To nominate the Houston Wedding Blog, just choose a category (we suggest Best Local Area Blog or Best Magazine or Wedding Website Blog), take 5.2 seconds to fill out the nomination form, hit submit, and help HWB achieve worldwide (web) fame!

Nominations close July 22, so vote now, and please, please, please spread the word (linking to this post via Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc., is a great way to tell your friends)!

To Do This Week: Kenneth Pool Trunk Show @ Mia Bridal Couture

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

PHOTOS COURTESY KENNETH POOL

Dramatic, glamorous, showstopping. These are the kinds of words you’ll find associated with Kenneth Pool bridal gowns. Kenneth Pool creative director Amsale Aberra says she loves being able to express “the more elaborate side” of her personality with the high-profile line, and it shows. The vintage-crystal embroidery? The sparkling jewel-appliqué details? The oceans of tulle and billows of gleaming duchess satin? These are no wallflower wedding gowns, baby. These wedding dresses command ATTENTION.

PHOTOS COURTESY KENNETH POOL

Like Bethenny Frankel’s for instance. The star of Bravo’s Real Housewives of New York City recently got hitched in the strapless satin “Romantic” from Kenneth Pool’s fall 2010 collection. And if you think your bridal gown’s gonna need alterations, Frankel was almost eight months pregnant when she slipped into that snug, trumpet-style stunner!

OK, enough about reality-TV stars. Make Kenneth Pool part of your own wedding-day reality this weekend, when Mia Bridal Couture hosts a very special Kenneth Pool trunk show Friday and Saturday, June 25-26. Call  713.622.2022 or e-mail info@miabridalcouture.com now to schedule an appointment to meet with a Kenneth Pool consultant and try on a couple of these knockout gowns yourself (like maybe the “Knockout,” for instance, with hand-beaded tulle, silk organza and a dreamy chapel train). And enjoy 15% off your gown purchase when you buy during this event (and we do mean ENJOY—a 15% discount is nothing to sneeze at for gowns that tend to be somewhere in $4,000 to many-more-thousands-than-that range).

To Do This Week: Watters Brides @ Mia Bridal Couture … Plus Bridesmaids & Bubbly with Watters Bridesmaids!

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010
Watters - Kalahari Watters - Yuma

What’s not to love about Watters bridal gowns? The classic lines, the couture embellishments, the sophisticated simplicity and elegance—no wonder to-be-wed gals across the nation (and in countless chats, tweets, fb posts) take pride in referring to themselves as “Watters brides,” as in “SO happy…I’m a Watters Harmony!” and “Can’t believe I’m actually a Watters Antoinette. TDF!!!!” Etc.

If you’re not a Watters bride yet, this weekend’s Watters Brides trunk show at Brickhouse Bridal may just change that. All day Friday and Saturday, June 25-26, Watters will be on hand showcasing stunning styles from its fall 2010 collection, like the gorgeous Kalahari, featuring a pleated bodice and lush full skirt with princess-perfect pick-ups, and the yummy Yuma with asymmetrical draping and flower details at the shoulder and hip.

Cool trivia: Betcha didn’t know Watters has a style called the Houston What other bridal design house can lay claim to a hometown namesake gown?

Watters - Bridesmaid Watters - Bridesmaid

And because Watters knows there’s nothing like beautifully dressed bridesmaids to enhance a bride’s wedding-day glamour, Brickhouse kicks off its Watters weekend with an exclusive Bridesmaids & Bubbly bash on Friday from 4-7 p.m. Grab your maids and make for The Woodlands, where Brickhouse will welcome you with floral displays, boudoir photography, decadent Araya chocolates and, of course, Champagne. All that and 15% off for bridal parties who buy their Watters dresses at the event? Sugar, that’s our kind of shopping!

To Do This Week: Bridal Open Houses at Heather’s Glen and Sweetwater Country Club

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010

Here’s what we love most about Heather’s Glen and Sweetwater Country Club: wedding packages without that dreaded “package feel.”

At Heather’s Glen, set on splendid grounds in Conroe, all-inclusive wedding packages range from casual cake-and-punch festivities to lavish affairs featuring ice bars, Champagne fountains and horse-drawn carriages. Sugar Land’s lakeside Sweetwater Country Club offers wedding packages that range in price based on selected menu, and all feature hosted valet parking, hosted bar and an expansive dance floor. While comprehensive wedding packages ensure that everything is in place on your wedding day, each venue allows wedding couples to customize their overall wedding environment to ensure that each wedding is completely unique, and each couple’s tastes and personalities shine through.

Of course, there’s plenty else to love about both wedding venues, including picturesque settings that beautifully blend natural ambiance with special-occasion elegance. We also love special features like Heather’s Glen’s lovely on-site country chapel with soaring ceilings, stained-glass windows and twinkling chandeliers—so sweet and perfect for storybook ceremonies. Sweetwater Country Club, meanwhile, wins major points for its awesome rehearsal dinners, which get guests in a celebratory mood with a choice of bountiful buffets (Texas BBQ, Mexican Fiesta, etc.) or the more formal, but still totally fun, sit-down dinner. Now that’s Houston-style hospitality!

But don’t take our word for it—check out these wedding venues for yourself!
